Hello! And welcome to FPS Stress! Your daily/weekly/monthly column about First Person Shooters and what they cause as well as what they relieve.

First Person Shooters give me what I desire. A way to calm myself down after work or pass the time while i'm waiting to go.. to.. umm.. work. These games take up a normal amount of time. 1.5-2.5 hours on a normal day. And like many of you, it produces a happy feeling in my stomach when I rush a flag eliminate the 3 heathen Americans camping it and after destroying the dasterdly dogs, wait (and usually count the the 15 seconds outloud) for them to spawn again and shoot me for my personal jihad.

The FPS has grown from the mundane single player madness that is Doom to the Deathmatch king Quake seriese through to (my favorite) the squad based shooter. This growth had kept the FPS fresh and friendly. If you don't do well alone, join a squad and maybe two will pack more of a punch.

This column will write about topics such as:
-Cheating
-Camping
-Server Language
-Newbs
-and why I have more deaths than kills in Battlefield 2

Any feedback is more than welcome!

Toodles! (I'm off to work soon)

Next column:

-where I work
-why I need a good FPS

FPS Stress!

Installment 2: Who am I and where am I going?

Hello again. It is time for the second installment of FPS Stress!

I am a twenty-five-year-old Philosophy Graduate. So what do I do with this degree? I work in a grocery store. I stock shelves full of groceries, frozen and dairy. I make customers happy by putting sweet treats in the aisles so they can buy them.
This evening The frozen and dairy orders came late, so I had work like the Dickens. I was staring at 3 palletts of frozen dinners, all on sale for a dollar, when a woman came up to me and asked if I was going to put more on the shelf. Well of course I am, it just takes time. but noooo they have to have it immediatly... wahh.. wahh.. *cry* *sob.* Needless to say, it frustrates me, watching people who make 5-6 dollars an hour more than me do half the work I do. So I _need_ a good first person shooter to relax with. I need to shoot some guns!
I came up with the idea for this column a little while back when I was thinking of a squad name for me and my buddies when we play Battlefield2. I came up with: the "Atomic Mom's" No were not mom's (it's an all guy clan) and no, were not registered anywhere (it's only 4 guys) but it's a good bunch of guys and it's a good clan. We work together well and are comfortable enough to anticipate what each person's next move is or what clas we should grab when we die. We each work according to our gifts.
I play a few other FPS's as well: BrainBread, CS:Source, HalfLife: Deathmatch, UT99, UT2004 etc. I have used all of those games as a simple way to relieve frustration, but I've seen them turing on me as of late. I notice cheaters and spammers and bots and exploiters. So i've decided to write about my experiences here, in the GamersHell forums. Why here and not somewhere else? I think this is a better forum than Gamespot or the IGN forums because I find that people here are not so quick to judge and their feedback is usually helpfull and not so argumentitive or negative.
What am I looking for with this column? This, like all my other writing, is a way for me to organize my thoughts but with a twist. I am going to be sharing my ideas and quirks with other people who are like minded and who have different points of view. This is a way to better myself and better my writing.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask! I will mostly be talking about Battlefield2 (that's why I put this column here) and what goes on in the games that I play as well as what people see in many FPS. I will be anaylizing what is wrong with the FPS and even talk about where this genre of game is going (the RG/FPS) i'm drooling on my keyboard aern't you!? So join me for the next install ment of FPS Stress!

Toodles!

wow! it seems IGN and Gamespot must be hell on earth! wait.....

i agree, never liked G$ or I Go Noob... all moneyraking nerds.

ruly, i completely agree with your column. according to my friends, working in those grocery stores suck. so i'm still workless ;). my mother often asks me when im at it again: why all the shooting? are there no peacefull games around? why all the death and destruction? And i always say: its a way to make you believe your someone else, be a hero, yet also a soldier. what makes us game en masse? because we dislike the fact you can die in real-time settings like that. we, or at least, I, see BF2 for example as a game, and a game only. no real time stuff involved, and i tend to keep it that way. its not only feeling to be someone else for a time, its handling stuff you never did before, and never will. this virtual way if making it allmost seem true does not make you feel satisfied, but also gives kicks. i recall jumping trice when i saw that little girl in FEAR. those games, the ones that make your senses go 'Wow', 'Holy logger', 'Whooargh!' are the ones that i like, and they will never leave my side.

if the installments are good enough, maybe mister monkay will even make it appear on the front page
