Yeah, so PCGamer gave Quake 4 a 70%, IGN gave it a 8.1. What do you guys think about these ratings? Do you think that ID has ruined their future of video games, or do you think there is still hope? Hey fanboy, I dont care what you think. You aren't allowed to post your opinion when you have a doom3 sig right under your post. It is pretty obvious you like doom3 and probably will like quake 4. This is a haters only conversation. No, actually im jokng... :P

I never said that Quake 4 IS a bad game, I said it will probably be one. I am not one to label a game until I have played it, that is why I "think" that it will be a bad game. The whole point of me posting this was just to gather thoughts and opinions about this, and what iD is doing to the game industry. I have talked to people and many agree and disagree with me. So what? More opinions guys.

I don't think Quake4 is going to be any different then people expected it to be.
Well Presented with high production values? Check
Okay storyline with some twists and turns, okay AI? Check
Good, fun multiplayer? Check

I think it was just supposed to be Quake 3, with an acceptable story and single player (Seeing as it is Quake, it probably wouldn't be too long or exceptionally deep), on a higher-grade engine, and that was it. Did anyone really expect more? The game sounds like it's fun, and good, but it doesn't really jump out with anything really new.

Had Quake4 had a longer story, been the first game done with the new iD engine(Doom3), and came out in mid-2004, basically taking the spot of Doom3, then I think we might all be debating Q4 vs CSS vs BF2 in Mulitplayer right now.

Quake 4 doesn't bring anything new engine-wise, we saw most of it in Doom3, it doesn't bring anything new gameplay wise, we saw it in Quake 3, it doesn't bring a great story, we've seen that in HL1, HL2, Halo, it's good, but it's too tame to earn the high 80%s and 90%s many feel it should have gotten.

But comparing D3 and Q4 seems a bit unfair. The major mistakes have been fixed, it has 4x the multiplayer player limit, it has 3x the MP maps, has a fast-ish MP style, it has AI teammates in SP, it has less dark SP areas, it runs better(all these drivers enhancements, performance is about 30-50% better then at release), it's basically what everyone wanted back in mid-2004.

On the other hand, just because it's better late then never, it's still inexcusable, and iD is still shattering as a company, unless they find someone to take Carmack's place and evolve the way MP games are played one last time.



EDIT: Just thought I'd add that thats my opinion, you asked for some, so there it is. It's funny because most if not all of us haven't even tried the game, I for one haven't and yet we already have an opinion on how it'll play, at this point if we play Q4. we'll probably end up finding things that support our opinion, not formulating a fresh one from what we are expirencing.

As for those who expected Quake4 to have revolutionary MP gameplay, where were you basing those expectations from? The developer spent the last year advertising mostly the single player, not the MP. The only things we've heard about the MP is that it's "very Quake3-ish," and thats postitive enough after the way Doom3's MP turned out.

lol thats more like it, i said that cause you havent even play the game dude and what you said in your first post was just totally dumb :P and im not a fanboy even thoug i will get Quake VI and F.E.A.R, in the long run, im just gonna get Shadow of the Colossus for now so cheers for the games coming out at the end of this year ;)
