Hi,

I played all the tutorial which went ok.

However it seems I can't destroy the space station in the first single player mission...

I tried with many y-wings and big ships etc... The space station just won't die ;)

I can't destroy the hanger, and the supply depot...

Has anybody destroy the space station successfully ?

Maybe my PIII 450 mhz is just to slow to destroy the space station LOL.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Try using the ion cannons to destroy the shield?

And, :raisehat: to your cpu

I did that, destroying the shields is easy...

But how to destroy the hanger and the supply depot ? :|

Thx anyway ;)

Hmm maybe if I set the process priority a bit higher... and shutdown some other things ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

Ok,

I just played the single player demo level two times.

This time I used ion cannons to disable some systems... when they are disabled they will have this bluewish electricy sparking over them etc. One has to left click to use ion cannons... right click is torpedo's... only the y-wings have this... also the y-wings automatically fire torpedo's at target I don't like that really... but ok... they have unlimited supply... in x-wing/tie fighter you only had a limited supply so you had to use them well =D

Anyway I/my pc is unable to destroy the space station. So what I did was I played the level again but this time with all high detail settings to see if that made any differences... I have an fx 5200 which is fully dx9 compatible... it didn't make any difference speed wise... so this is an indication that the game is probably cpu or bus bandwidth limited for me ;)

Anyway at high details the explosions look a bit better and a bit more... but the rest of the graphics just become fuzzy... so some things actually looked better at low detail. The bloom filter effect is probably the cause of the fuzzy graphics so I would recommend disabling it for sharper graphics ;)

Anyway I like the game a lot, it has nice atmosphere... the ground battles are bit childesh though... the space battles are interesting.

I am already looking forward to Starwars Empire at War 2... with hopefully a little bit more realistic ground battles, and more realistic space battles, with limited supply of torpedo's and harder to destroy space ships.... those big ships are taken down too easily

It almost makes me want to play tie fighter again lol... but the graphics are pretty crappy for nowadays standards and to much mouse movement required... etc I already finished that game three times or so...

Playing this game empire at war game was pretty relaxing... I like to be in the commander seat and I like watching my units fight it out =D <- relaxed =D

The menu's and the rest of the graphics also fellt a bit childesh... but not to bad for a first game.

I like the holographic build stuff... and the voices are extremely cool, the story and little detail options like smugglers and spy's and stealing tech really add to the atmosphere of the game and the story... I like it ;)

However compared to today's graphical shooters the game feels a bit lacking at the graphics front but not to bad...

It's just not enough to make me go... wow... but maybe my slow pc is a little to blame for that as well...

On a faster PC things might run a bit faster and therefore make it look like an action packed game with fast space combat... now everything happens a bit too slow for my taste ;)

I'll think I am gonna try this game on a faster pc.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Oh yeah one more thing.

The demo version was:

1.00.35517(demo) 12-17-2005 17:25:54

Just in case it's actually a bug ;)

Wow great tip Shades3K

I am gonna try it immediatly to see if that helps solve the prrroblem.

Update:

Nope. I tried it, can't rotate the camera... I tried left control and right control.

The help says nothing about rotating the camera.

So either you have a different demo version or you pulling my leg ?!

Or another explanation might be my Logitech Optical Click! mouse doesn't work with the middle button for this game.

I found some tips on the website about this and they said to check "alternate mouse configuration"... I thought about trying it when I was in the game but the hint message said it was just for switching left and right so I didn't think it would help.

So I will try one last time to see if I can get the camera to rotate ;)

Stay tuned !

Here is the website where I also found the thread ;)

http://www.empire-at-war.com/

! UPDATE !

COOOOOOOOLLL IT WORKS ! =D

Fortunatelly I have this little white mouse icon in my system tray which allows me to change the middle mouse button assignment.

It said: "universal scroll" I changed that to: "middle button"

Now the rotating works in the space battles !

JIPEEEEEEEE

I am so excited now !

This game just got 10 times better for me lol.

Here is how I found out/this thread explained it more or less... it's a little problem with the mouse drivers or so... hopefully this little annoyance will be improved/fixed in the final game ;)

http://forums.lucasarts.com/thread.jspa?th...=99792&tstart=0

(The rotating of the galatic map doesn't work though as explained in this thread...that would be cool... but who needs it ;).... at least rotating the space battles is now possible... which is most important.

I hope I can destroy the space station now... STAY TUNED =D

Now I am gonna to restart the mission since I simply went ahead and try it... first I need a bigger fleet...

and also I am going to set difficulty to hard lol =D

Wieeeee..

Can't wait to see those suckers blow up especially the damned space station wieeeeee.

UPDATE:

! Terrible, Terrible, Terrible !

I STILL CAN'T DESTROY THE SPACE STATION ((((((((

The problem seems to be at least with the hanger... it's deep inside the space station there are no entrances...

and I simply can't destroy it ?!?!?

WEIRD.

Well at least now I know how to rotate... maybe I ll try again sometime but not today...

I can't take another disappointment like that on one day lol =D

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( ((((((((((((((((((((((( =D ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.
