Heh, no it was just that it was d/l only, but you still had to pay. A bit like LFS, but without being able to use the d/l as a demo before unlocking it.
Imo, what you initially got for your money wasnt really worth it, but the whole idea was to open up the new ISI engine and allow it to be the most mod friendly racing sim ever, and have ISI and fans keep adding tonnes of free content over time - new tracks cars textures etc.
There have been some quality fan made mods like F3, Porsche cup, nascar, various tracks, as well as new ISI made stuff up to now. But recently there's been talk of having payware mods (like flight sims) so modders get more incentive to make quality work. I'm not so sure the whole thing will take off though, it's a bit too 'messy'.
I like the idea of rFactor, but atm I think I prefer the polished quality of the one off tracks and cars made by Simbin/Blimey.
