hi,
to all the lovecraft fans out there, here is a list of nice mythos games you should take a look at:
Cthulhu Nation is a browsergame. do quests, craft items and slay mythos creatures with hundreds of other people around the world. explore england, peru, egypt and antartica in the 1920s and chat with other lovecraft fans!
this is another browsergame, but singleplayer only. featuring nice isometric graphics and a scary plot.you can also save your game! investigate the House on Sentinel Hill
and yet another game for your browser. you are playing a private eye in the 1920s in a large town and you gotta solve different cases. do you have the wits and guts to be a Sleuth?
for the next games you will need some kind of dos-emulator. try DOS-box. its really easy to use.
one of the best classic point and click cthulhu adventures is Prisoner of Ice.
the Hound of the Shadow is a text adventure but features a character generation and a scary plot!
Shadow of the Comet is a point&click adventure. find out what happened to the small coasttown in the night the comet appeared.
the last adventure about the cthulhu mythos is called Daughter of Serpents and very similar to the shadow of the comet. this time you can explore egypt!
if anyone know about more cthulhu games please post here. of course i have already played "dark corners of the earth". too bad we wont get another cthulhu adventure in the near future

Call of cthulhu the game which came out like a year ago... one of the coolest games i played. the story was so good, and the whole atmosphere. gfx werent the LATEST but in its own way it was quite good. some very cool parts in the game though, like the underwater "atlantis" world. or fighting cthulhu's father, Dagon (the mother is hydra). You fight him on a shipping boat as he comes out of the ocean and he is bigger than the boat itself. also theres like massive 100 foot waves the boat is going over. its not a storm though because its a full moon and clear night... evil magic beings are summoning waves at you from an island. HAHA confused yet? anyways, its one of the most interactive levels ive seen in any game and one of the best games ive played. ah i wish they made a sequel but the company who made it is gone now. they worked 5 long years making the game and by then people lost interest, it didnt sell so good. sucks. ok so any other cthulhu games out there which are like FPS or 3rd person? not lame browser games like the first guy mentioned

came out for 29 bucks and i got it right away. It is one of the best "horror" shooter there is. It gives you the feeling you got when you played ResiEv or Silent Hill for the first time. only the corpses disapearing sux ass

You are in all parts right, except here, friend. Cthulhu is a deity/demon/creature/alien, that´s comprised and consisting of rules that defy the laws and rules of earthly physics and/or biology. With the "Big /Great Old Ones" and the Cthulhu-Mythos, Howard Phillips Lovecraft created a set of cosmic creatures of collossal, twisted and malign origin, who are beyond mortal understanding.
Their otherworldly composure and their sheer size are beyond the abilities, with which a human mind tries to ordinate and comprehend its surroundings, that is why they and their lesser servitor races drive those mad, who interfere with their twisted plans.
(and that is, why you get insane during the Xbox/pc title, whilst you come in contact with the lurking horrors of innsmouth^^)
Father Dagon and Mother Hydra are ritual titles, given to the most powerful leaders of the "Deep Ones". The Deep Ones are a Servitor Race, breeding in the bottomless watery pits of the ocean, beyond age and mortality, and worshipping Great Cthulhu through their spiritual leaders, Dagon and Hydra. The Deep Ones look like a grotesque and nature defying mxture between Humanoid, fish and frog.Because they are immortal, their eldest representatives are the most big and powerful ones, near godlike to the human mind, and that is, what Dagon and Hydra are...
Sorry to be such a wiseguy, but the realm of Lovecraftian Hororr is my personal main-hobby for about 15 years now. I´m open for personal messages or questions in this thread to all members of the forum, who want to know more, or who need this knowledge to conclude the few games concerning the topic out there

Awesome, they never made that clear enough in the game so i just expected they were his mother/father, or "its"
U know what im wondering though, in the game, you never actually fight cthulhu himself. so what does cthulhu actually look like, or where does he/it live if not in that underwater world where you meet hydra at the very end? i wanted to see cthulhu dammit but now this game wont have a sequel and we will never see him

Cthulhu is such a bloated, gargantous and giant thing, consisting of immortal flesh made of materials mankind canot even imagine. He and his brethren, the big old ones were cursed to an eternal undead sleep by creatures called the elder gods, who guard the safety of the universe.
They all were banished to transdimensional realms, stars or dimensions. Cthulhu himself rests in a sunken and doomed alien Metropolis in the pacific ocean, called R´Lyeh, were he is shackled to a trilithon behind two scycraper-high gates of blackest obsidian, ever dreaming in his not-death, stirring the dreams of madmen, children, artists and other sensible folks. Merely thinking of destroying or killing this deity in a computer game single-handedly is pure madness^, so that´s why they did not implement it in the game. "When the stars are right", is said to be the time, when great Cthulhu and his brethren will return, to reclaim their earthly and cosmic domains. Even when you could find a way to kill him, Cthulhu would be reborn instantaniously.
To get an impression of the Cthulhu Mythos, search google for pics, keyword "Cthulhu" ;) , or try wikipedia
