Paramount recently announced the securing of every major Trek captain for voiceover work in a new starship combat command game similar in scope to the older Starfleet Command series from Interplay, but this time spanning all eras of the property. The announcement heralded the accomplishment as reviving the franchise.
I admit I have no burning desire to command capital starships in certain particular eras.
I also admit that such a game, if similar to the play of the precursors mentioned previously, could be a fairly deep combat experience; some good times were had with SFC around these parts.
Am I wrong however to dislike the enormous weight being brought to bear upon this mere game? "To reinvigorate the franchise" strikes me as a stretch of possibility... and I do not wish to insult honest confidences in the potential of a game, but I then also find myself thinking that perhaps the game is simply meant to reinvigorate a revenue stream. I wonder if that is a wise tact for art.
If that thought is correct, I wonder what principles will be guiding the developers as they toil on the project. I wonder if this can be anything more than a stab at keeping the property alive - kind of the wrong impetus to design a supposedly entertaining game, isn`t it?

Well i dono about you but the game looks kick ass and im Sooo buying it. ME = Trekkie
As for them for trying to keep the property alive the last few movies did not do to well nor did the series Enterprise so i would only guess thats part of it.
There is a dedicated fan base that still watches and waits for more goods from the ST franchise
But atleast they are trying to get the franchise kicking again, With 4 games in the works on almost all platforms i would hope that brings some life back to the ST name
Theres also a new movie in the works, i guess its about how spock and kirk met at the SFA. but if you ask me this is a bad move.. i wana see movie(s) about DS9 becouse there are a WHOLE lot of answers that can be explained about that and i think it would make a damn good movie(s).

I'm not that interested, personally, but I'll be buying it for my boyfriend when its out. He's all kinds of excited about it.
Since he indulges my Final Fantasy obsession, I figure I should probably return the favor.

I`m not even sure what Final Fantasy is these days - I remember the original # 1 and 2 on the Nintendo 8-bit system. Stuff today seems so far away from that... .
(to each his/her own, I`m just observing)

The old FFs made everyone skip school! They were awesome! There was one I remember for the music only. You had a blimp, then landed in a forest that was inhabited by trex lookin monsters. My dad and I would go there just to hear it. An earlier one I loved was the one with the fire and ice thing. Soooo many memories! FFx and x2 realllllly sucked! The online one is crap and 12 is iffy. Hopefully, the next one in the series will bring back the magic of FF!
I know this has nothing to do with Star Trek but, after the original series, it all sucked ass anyway.

Your blimping recollections seem familiar to me; I faintly recall that event (!).
GreatCthulhu,
Love the Robert Bloch quotation in your signature.

Well the most recent FF games HAVE been pretty great - except I don't like FFXI that much - but FFXII looks like it will be amazing. I have loved almost every one of them though, and I too used to "get sick" so I could play while my mom was at work. Man, I want FFXII NOW.
My BF is already asking me about this Star Trek game. He is so obsessed
