Will Sony go broke?

I was just about to look up the specs but I see Fycus has already posted it -- porn IS NOT a factor in the next gen war. I am not one to judge consoles before I have played them and whatnot, but I will say that Sony has failed to show me anything I would really need to buy a PS3 for.

At first I was interested in some games as they were PS exclusives, only to find out a month later Sony had just paid companies like Ubisoft to only confirm it for the PS3, to build hype, even though it would be a X360 title as well. After buying my 360 at launch, I have been extremely happy with it and all the great, fun games to come out for it so far. Graphics are not too much of a big deal to me, and as Magus as stated in his article, games are about fun, not eye candy.

For this reason, I will be buying a Nintendo Wii on or near launch date, and I know several of my friends who will be too. So while some people are standing in line to get one of the 400,000 PS3s, ready to pay 600+, I will be enjoying Twilight Princess after paying a measly 300$ and having nearly no trouble with availability.

Yes people like porn and whatnot, but it's not really the deciding factor on a format (anymore). I don't know very many people who will go and buy a 500-600$ console to watch porn in high definition, because only 15% of households actually have HDTVS anyway.

Nope, my last sentence stated that Sony would profit from each bluray disc sold, that includes porn. Perhaps I should have been more clear on that.
If Bluray wins the whole war then they will make huge profits of it, just like Philips does for each dvd and cd sold.

We shouldn't assume that just because we hang around the net and have everything at our disposal that everyone has the same. There are more people in this world who either don't have the net or don't know how to use it, then there are people who do. You all assume that the vhs/betamax example is outdated because of your own knowlegde, but not because it's based on the real figures. MS and Sony had a huge biddingwar about this which had been won by Sony, do you really think they spend all that money and research on that market in vain?

The biggest difference between the 360 and the PS3 is the format, and it makes a huge difference. The blu ray is able to play cd's dvd and all that stuff while the hd-dvd of ms isn't able to play blu-ray. The format is going to be one of the biggest isseus in this war. Let's not forget that both Sony and Ms have both made it very clear that the nextgen consoles are more then just gaming devices and the formats will make the difference.

Having the bluray not as an addon is a huge plus in Sony's favor as standard equipped hardware will be accepted faster then optional hardware. You can't be boned (?) by having the blu ray, you're more likely to be boned (?) when you settle for just an pimped dvd player

HD-DVD for me, what can make 5 gigs more of a movie, like maybe some extra dull dvd extras like games, sorry doesnt attract me :P

Actually, I think it would be the other way around. If blu-ray doesn't work, they would still make games for it and the format would be exclusive for the console only, much like the original PS and their modified cd's. Not that the original playstation had their cd's on media platforms, but they can still make games at no loss. In the case of the ps3, they will be losing tons of consumers and money because one of the biggest selling points is the blu-ray player. I think they should focus more on the games. :dennis:

Ok. This time you got me. My logic is a little off as MS is keeping their games on dvd and Sony is going with blu ray. So the hd part of it is irrelavent when it comes to games. I said it myself! MS is only having the hd addon for movies. I suppose I should pay more attention in the heat of posting but sometimes, that just doesnt happen.

I do and will make mistakes! However, I stand by, almost, every damn word I have typed in this thread. If and when I am proved wrong, I will admit it with no regrets
