As Microsoft's and Nintendo's marketingmachines have put on a huge effort to discredit Sony's PS3 as the new marketleader, more and more articles about the apperant demise of Sony keep appearing. Ofcourse the figures they used are incomplete and they keep forgetting that Sony makes billions with the sales of the PS2 and related games, but it might make a nice discussion.

So come on all you Wii360 boys and girls and do your best :thumbup:

Whilst it is true SONY have reported losses, their World-Wide catalogue enables them to do so. All console manufacturers make a loss on Hardware sales for the first 2 years, going back as far as the 8-bit era, where game sales and licenses helped claw back the hardware vendors initial investment.

However, I think this time around, SONY are going to have more of a battle on their hands, with Nintendo actually clawing back some of their share of the console market and M$ taking a fair few percentage points themselves. SONY 50%, Nintendo 20% and M$ 30% would seem about right to me.

Well, having Sega back is an whole other cup of tea then coffee is, but I'd like to see that as well.

I personaly think that Nintendo is gonna release a nintendogbraintraining game which is gonna be a huge hit amongst the non-conventional gamer crowd. With that move they already made on the portable sector of their gamingindustrie they are going to be right on top with the PS3.

Microsoft in my view rely's way too much on games like Gta (which they paid millions for and have to earn back first), Halo and Gears of war which is gonna be released at the same time as the PS3 is. They are hoping that the release of Gears of war is gonna take the attention away from the PS3 launch, I wish them all the best with that dream. Furthermore I truly believe that people are gonna stop using Xbox live if Sony and Nintendo provide a stable and free network.

Everyone seems to go back to the betamax vs. vhs on this. I can see the resemblece sorta. The blu ray alone is not what is going to hurt the ps3, the most anyway. Even if blu ray does take off, $600 is a lot of money to spend on a game system. I talk to a lot of people on msn and other places about this and the price point seems to keep coming up more than the blu ray deal.

This is why I like MS having the hd addon. It is not for games. Just movies. Dont get me wrong though, blu ray discs can hold more. It would have been nice if sony offered the blu ray as an option and then kept the dvd as the main drive in the rig. This would bring the cost of the system and games down to about what the 360 is.

So in my opinion, the ps3 should have 2 price points, one without the blu ray for 400 and one with 600. This would have eliminated a lot of crap

I dont think Sony will go broke but, I do think they are going to come in last in this gen console wars. This depends on a lot of things though. Will the Will live up to its expectations, can MS get some actual next gen games?, if Sony and N have a free successful free online service can MS stay in the game?, are people willing to spend $600 on a console and then some 10 - 20 more on a game. These are all questions that will make a difference.

In my opinion, I think the PS3 will not do as well in the US as it will in Japan. Especially since Sony reduced the price in Japan to 450. Some Japan retailers marked down the price of the 360 there so, maybe retailers here will do that to the ps3 to get them to sell. Only time will tell.

I think GoW will take some of the focus off of the ps3 release, in the US anyway. A lot of people have been waiting for this game and those who were thinking about it, $600 or $60 is a pretty easy answer to me! Sure there are going to be some pple that can afford to get the ps3 right at release but, since there is only a limited number of them, I can assure you that they will be on ebay for 3 times retail just like the 360 was.

MS has a good jump on the competion. Although it seems the best games are coming out now for it. Which is kinda smart but, if they would have had a game like GoW 6 months ahead of release, they would be wayyyyy ahead.

N is counting on the affordable price and the controler deal to beat the rest and it just might work. God knows I want one now.And the will will ship with a game. That cant hurt anything either. Lets all hope it lives up to the hype or they will be joining Sega after this

I dont know what the hell sonys strategy is. I cant even speculate on them. They have said that it is not a gaming machine and loads of other crap that seems to deter ppl from the system. As far as I can tell, sony is counting on the Asian market, heavily.

These are the people that piss me off the most; the people that want one company or a thing to fail without gaining anything from it.
Do you understand who is behind Xbox right? M motherf@#$ing S. Those monopolizing faggots behind Windows, they try to make those shatter proof, and they always fail.
Nintendo isn't so nice and playful; they got their own monopolizing campaigns under their belt, like for example not allowing developers to make games for any other platforms back in NES times and of course backstabbing Sony with the CD-rom support.
Playstation has one of my favorite franchises, why would I want it to fail? Why would I want any console to fail?
It's one thing if you dislike the price, but hating a company just for that is ludicrous to me.
