oh and gazz, that article is from a individual not working for EA. kind of research i already did. word is that some mod might be able to thwart this stupidness with ease.

Balls indeed! It should be noted that if an EA person were to come in here, they would most likely get the full force of how pissed people are at them. I don't see this happening anytime soon.
I think it would be good if they got out more. But there are a lot of sites out there where they could, concievably, discuss these issues. Too many perhaps...

What temperature is it on the EA site right now?

LoneStrider,

A tech guru in my neck of the woods said unto me that one might be able to spoof the program by pointing all its ad server links to some kind of neutral 'dummy' server of your own making. The 'dummy' would of course contain no ads to transmit, simply pinging a response back to your machine to make it stop requesting. If you`ve found that information...

I`m not a tech man so I can`t offer anything more than that generality. Does it make any sense?

Umh I think that would actually require modifying the bf2142.exe and as we all know bf series use bunkbuster and bunkbuster registers changes made to game files. But yeah it would work for sure wouldn’t recommend it tho.
By the way I think my copy of the game arrives tomorrow so I’m going to scan what modifications it in fact does to the system. Or if the game exe opens any excess ips/ports that aren’t needed for running the game Ill post them here.

what i can see pissing people off is if ea says : "no ads, no game"
say if people that curcumvent the ads, for example, with lonestriders
type of trick, then you are refused access to ANY server...

if memory serves correctly, they were talking about implementing
similar styled things into bf2, if the bf2142 ones worked...

And this is exactly the kinda thing that is driving people away from EA. In my opinion, bf1942 with mods, is still the best in the series. EA can not expect people to bend over year after year.

We knew well before 2142 was released that the ads were going to be there. I would say at that point it was a 50 50 sided story. Ones who were against it argued that it would slow down the service and the the ads would not be relevant in 2142. The ones who didnt care said who gives a crap its BF and we have seen ad placement well before this version of bf.

Then, 2142 was released and after, and I stress the word after here, you bought the game and opened it, what do you get? A nice letter saying you will be tracked. This started a shit storm. Now, I would say it is 80 20 against 2142. And it should be higher! This is how virus and hackers find a way in to a system. A third party.

I am with the majority on this one. I will not be buying 2142. I wouldnt even pirate the pos! I mean the day of release, it had a patch!! That should say something right there.

EA is really going down the toilet and sooner or later there will be a small dev to come to the rescue of the gamer. All ea gives a shit about is its bottom line.

Battlefield 2142 also tracks "impression data" related to in-game advertisements: location of a billboard in the game, brand advertised, duration of advertisement impression, etc. This information is used to help advertisers qualify the reach of a given advertisement.
Well, I guess EA slipped up there. First they say they have no intention of seeing what the user does and now it seems they admit to scanning the players behaviour so they can see how log he looks at a billboard.

Today I am going to stalk an EA employee and see how long he looks at billboards for marketingpurposes. Let's see how they feel about that
