Euro PS3 and BC

It seems that Sony is kicking Euro gamers in the goody bag yet again as they have dropped full backward compatibility of PS2 games for the PS3! Here is a quote from CVG:

"PS one title backward compatibility has not changed and there will be a limited number of PS2 titles compatible - but PS3 is defined by key features such as the CELL broadband engine, its Blu-ray drive, the SIXAXIS Controller and its ability to output full 1080P HD game content which makes it an entertainment system for the future, without equal. Backwards compatibility is important but it does not define the PS3 in the same way as the other features do"

What do you Euro gamers think about this?

Well, what can I say?
It´s definitely depressing news here for me...
I´m still planning to get one, though, don´t wanna get cut off the technical innovations, like with my comp..
I hate the fact that Pc programmers set on the users to upgrade their hardware frequently, so I planned to get myself a nextgen console...But now...Maybe I´ll totally switch to Rpg,Larp, Tgc and Boardgaming...;)


I cannot understand Sony´s behavior here, don´t they realize that there´s a massive european base for PS2 games? And here in germany they´re still sellin Ps1 games,too...
Well, I´ll put the peeping eye on further decisions of this company...but I won´t switch to 360 (Microsoft is teh gay) or Wii either
(I´m 27, definitely looking for adult gaming experiences...GIMME GORE NOT BOWLING).

Hopefully they don´t blow this whole joint....

Actually most ps2 games are supported and those that are not will be in the future due to firmware upgrades, this is just another storm in a glass of water. Tons of people will get the PS3 once it comes out here and the first 500.000 who preregistered their onlinenick get a Blu-ray copy of Casino royale to go with it.

I could go on about this forever and then some Wii or 360 kiddo would come and try to outsmart me with illlogcal fanboy chatter but who cares about the opinion of someone who was dumb enough to buy a Wii or 360 anyway

Sidenote: I sold my Wii btw but not to Magus like he promised. The broke ass loser, all promises and nothing to show for it

Sony is just doing this because people are FORCED to upgrade their ps3 firmware...
Like this they can improve security, still control what's running on THEIR ps3...
Look like the security patches in PSP firmware...

Like this sony can improve the compability with previous game-releases, in order to get the security of the ps3 at maximum...

Why can't they just "open the console" => opensource software for everybody !
Ok, I know that some people just keep trying to get copies of the (blu-ray) games for consoles...

Illegal copies of games are overrated. Sure some games get downloaded much but ussualy by kiddos who don't have the money to get the game anyway. The real loss in finances is extremely low, the industry just wants to make it look higher so they can justify to charge more money for their games. All in all the "protection" against copys cost way more then the total losss in revenue.

Sony is going to have new games run on the latest firmware and include that with the game. Seems like a great plan to me, they can effectively fight piracy and we get the latest PS3 drivers and tweaks. A win win situation.
