Hi there,

I'm here to advertise my text-based, play-by-post RPG - Cities of Crime. We're currently looking for more players and would appreciate it if you would read through the readme and give the site a flip through. Joining is strictly optional and up to you, but if you DO join, it is accepted that you WILL play the game. Below is the readme of the game and the site. Contact details are also there, if you want to contact me and ask any questions. I saw nothing in the site rules that said I couldn't do this, so I hope it's alright.

Most importantly: Link to the site: http://citiesofcrime.110mb.com/index.php

Seond-most important: The readme. The game currently takes place in early 20th century New York (Manhattan).

Hey there,

This is the README for the Cities of Crime Role-Playing Game. It’s not a standard role-playing game in that you don't control just a single character. Here, you create your own gang, and you control the gang's movements, and the movements of its individual characters, and decide what they do in relation to what else is going on in the game.

If being a criminal doesn’t appeal to you, then you can be a policeman in the city’s police-force. You’ll need to track down the gangsters and kill them or arrest them. You leave yourself open to bribery, threats and of course, a contract with your name on it. If you wish to have a bit more crime-fighting power, then perhaps you’d like to be a member of the BoI, the Bureau of Investigation; changed, in 1935, to the FBI; the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Again, you’ll need to hunt down criminals, or put up with bribes (which you may or may not accept), and run the risk of getting injured or killed.

Members wishing to play as policemen or FBI-agents will control one character per-member. If there’s another member who’s a policeman or an FBI-agent, then you can ask him to be your partner. If he refuses, you have to go it alone. Good luck!

A word about joining:

We only have a few members, and we're looking for more. If you join the forum, that implies that you're going to play the game, so please have a look around the forum & the game FIRST.

Here's the deal:

The game is called Cities of Crime. As it might imply, it takes place in various cities (one at a time!!), which have been famous, or are famous, for being infested with criminals. New York City (Manhattan) is the current city. (At the time of this post).

The first thing you need to do when you join our forum (and the game itself), is to make yourself known to everyone else...then, you need to set up your gang.

This includes:

Name (of the gang).
Type of gang. (Mafia family? Yakuza? Triads? Street-gang? Drug-smugglers? What are they?)
Key members. (Leader/s & senior members and their roles. Roles of each member isn't necessary, but it'd be a nice thing to add).

Weapons (What guns do these guys use? ***NB: Weapons MUST be in accordance with the game's time-period***

Cars (What cars do these people use to drive around in? ***NB: Cars, like weapons, MUST be available during the time-period the game is set in.

Who can play this game?

Really anyone teenaged and older, and who know what RPGs are.

Since this game DOES revolve around organised crime & the Mafia and gangs, one SHOULD have an understanding of:

- Gang-wars and how they're conducted.

Gang wars are NOT conventional wars. They don't have gangsters in huge groups running around shooting each other. They're done quiet and fast and without notice.

- The Mafia & other famous organised crime syndicates.

If you decide, for example, TO PICK A MAFIA FAMILY as your gang, then you should know what each member of the Mafia DOES. The Don gives the orders, the consiglieri gives the advice, the caporegimes make sure the orders are carried out, and the soldiers do the dirty work.

- History (since the games start in history, (early 20th cent.), to provide for a longer playing time).

Realism & NOT BLOCKING is an important part of this game, if it's to run smoothly. IT IS THE CARDINAL RULE. The game CANNOT operate smoothly without it.

What this means is that one must strive for realism. You can't have tanks and airplanes bombing someone else's turf. You can have a driveby shooting on a restaraunt, or a truck-bomb, though. What you do is dictated by what means are at the disposal of the average criminal organisation.

*BLOCKING*.

Blocking is a theatrical term, which means that you WORK WITH WHAT SOMEONE GIVES YOU. In our game, what this means, is that - If someone says they throw a grenade into your bar and blow the hell out of it, you MUST accept that. You can't say: "The grenade bounced off a wall and landed in the street! So my bar is fine!" If it
happened, it happened. DEAL WITH IT AND REACT ACCORDINGLY. People not doing this in the past was a BIG problem and it screwed up the game A LOT.
