Does Salammbo actually work?

Hi all! Please help! I just got the game Salammbo, by The Adventure Company, and no matter what I do it wont run.... After install, I click on the icon, or the program exe file, the screen will go black for a second and then go back to the desktop. Has anyone else run into this issue? The Salammbo website is terrible for any real info. I had thot it may be because im running windows2000, but during install it prompts for the OS and win2k is one of the choices...please help me, I really want to play this game!
