We all know the Tony Hawk series has been the king of skateboarding games for years now but, next month, EA is set to release SKATE and the demo is due out next week. In anticipation of the demo release, I would like to know what your thoughts are on it. And yes, I know it is an EA game but that does not mean it will instantly suck!

I have been following it for a while now and I think if the controls are as good as what I hear, it has a chance to dethrone Tony and bring new life into the genre. It should be interesting to see what EA will bring to the table. As always, I will post my review of the demo after it is released

I must have played the skate demo for six hours yesterday and I have to say, I am pretty impressed. It took me a while to get used to the controls though as they are nowhere close to the Tony Hawk style. Left stick controls your body, right stick controls the board, the A and X buttons push you, B is brake, Y lets you talk to ppl, left and right triggers are your grab and the right stick also tweaks your grabs while in air.

This takes some getting used to! Especially if you are used to TH! In skate, doing an olliing onto a platform is not the easiest of tasks as you have to have your timing just right. You get up speed with a or x then have to let go to use the right stick for your ollie! Flip tricks are also done via the rs by changing the direction you go. Manualing is a lot tougher as well. There is no balance meter! You just have to watch yourself. A manual is done by pushing the right stick slightly up or down and then you can move your body to change the manual a bit. Which is very cool btw! Riding a rail is a bit like manuals. You have to line up and jump on the rail yourself and hold your balance.

The controls make landing the easiest line in TH seem hard but, when you do it, you feel that you accomplished something. If I had any complaints about the demo it would be the camera. Sometimes the camera is not where you want it to be and this makes lining up a tad difficult. I can deal with the time limit but, I really hate the fact it kicks you out when the time is done. One more thing, I can't figure out how to get big air! Not sure if is just me but, trying to get some air off a quarter pipe seems a little hard.

For those looking for a more realistic skate game, this is it! Although it takes time to learn the controls, it is well worth it when you do! I will be having skate when it comes out next month!
