Gazz, you keep talking about profit. What you are missing is that MS is willing to BUY market share at the expense of profit, and that is what is crushing Sony. MS will subsidise the cost of games/console systems to gain market share, and if that means buying dev houses (Bungee anyone?) to gain exclusive access to big games, so what? They can throw BILLIONS around. This isn't a new tactic by MS, it is exactly how they took over the web browser market by pusing out IE for free, and they are well practiced at it.

Without new AAA titles for the PS3 this Christmas where do you think consumers who want a shiny new console will go? They really only have one option for the highly publicized AAA titles. This is going to leave Sony even further behind on shipped units, making the 360 even more attractive to developers, allowing MS to garner more exclusive content, etc, etc

As far as abandoning the original Xbox... well, I don't see how keeping both in distribution would have been any benefit to MS, and I'm not sure that keeping the PS2 is really helping out SONY any. Generally, companies try pretty hard not to have competing products on the market, and I can't help but think that having PS2 and PS3 both out at the same time isn't a tad confusing to your average Christmas shopper.

I imagine Sony will be fine in the handheld market for some time to come, it's just them and Nintendo, and they have a lot of titles for it coming down the pike.

Are you telling me Sony doesn't buy dev houses and developers alike? Seriously, you really need to check your facts. Free IE, and then came FireFox and shat all over it. MS can throw as much money as they want, ideally their monopolies will be bypassed.

And some to be announced at TGS, not to mention all the great titles in 2008.

Actually with Ps2 on the market, parents have a great and cheap gift for their kids. If you don't follow NPD number, PS2 sold 222,000 consoles in the month of July, of course Wii being on top and DS being second. With a great library and some games still being released, it gives a buffer for Sony until PS3 ramps up it's user base and a good list of titles. I'm pretty sure a shopper knows a difference between $129 and $499, it's the matter of what was requested as a gift or if the person already owns a PS2.

Strangely enough you didn't call PSP a failure or put it into the same perspective as PS3, heh.

-Heavenly Sword *SUX ASS. there is so much tearing in this game that at one point it just getting unplayable on a big HD TV.
-Folklore *Dunno who or what is playing this kinda game but I thought it was only soso...more a PS2 game with PS3 logo on it.
-Call of Duty 4 *comes for all sys and PC is the one to go with.
-SOCOM: Confrontations *didn't like any of the old SOCOM games....dunno, it felt lie Ghost Recon for fanboys.
-Uncharted Drakes Fortune *AAA Title? it's tomb raider with a guy...the took the gal out for a dude...and even if it was a gal it still be another tomb raider game.
-Stranglehold *GOD, WHO DA FUCK DESIGNED THE PS3 Controller? It's unplayable for me on PS3 and it got some serious framedrops. 360 version was fun thou.
-Unreal Tournament 3 *PC game. if you play it on console, any consol, then you are a retard.
-Gran Turismo 5 Prologue *it does look great like all the other GT games but heck...I got GTR2 + G25 steering wheel.


That was the shittiest AAA list for any console ever made. it even included lame games that
got crap reviews already all over the place. only a sony fanboy woud still think they are great.

Yeah all but GT-Prologue and LBP are on different formats or are not worth a mention as AAA material.

GT-Prologue is a glorified demo and LBP is a platformer, utiliising a well established physics API. Its like playing Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck in co-op in The World of Illusion on the Megadrive, but with some pixel shaders, light blooms and DoF.

-Unreal tournament: can be played with keyboard and mouse on the PS3
-Socom: confrontation's: So you didn't like the game? Millions of others did and those numbers make it AAA for sure.
-Call of duty 4: can be played with keyboard and mouse too.
-Uncharted, Drakes fortune: As I can remember Tombraider has an excellent record in gamesales and I don't see what's so bad about this one.
-Folklore: I'm not that into RPG myself either, and I also doubt its aaa but it will do fine.
-Stranglehold: all I can say about that, is that whoever cant control his "controller" is a noob. Kinda like the kids who always scream in online games, "i shot a whole clip at that guy and he still didn't die" whining. Learn to aim Kami.
-Gran Turismo 5 Prologue- who cares if you have GTR2 and a wheel, why doesn't that make the game AAA. It just makes you seem like desperate with nor real good argument about the game. It will do great anyway.

Most of these games already has fixed dates for release and the only thing here that is so shaky like that Mexican girl in the
strip club on the corner are your arguments.

however... first let me say i love my wii and that is the console i will buy games for fist any day of the week.
My ps2 is next in line for new games.

now here is the thing i really don't want to say.....
Bucky is 100% correct about ms buying market share.
i'm thinking about buying a 360 (and i do belive that Bill Gates is the AntiChrist)
the reason i'm leaning too the 360 instead of the ps3?
1. Sony is way too cocky and doesn't care one lick about the consumer anymore. just look at the sound issues the ps3 had with one of the first games released for the console and their response (i will find the link and update this later for proof). sony did not care that there was an issue with the sound and basically said that real gamers don't bother listening to the sound on a video game anyways.

2. The price.... do i really have to say anything else?

3. the games the 360 has way more games out that i want to play and has more on the way. Sony has one i can't remember the name right now but it looks like a female ver. of god of war. something like heavenly blade

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp needs to establish an unwavering marketing strategy for its PlayStation 3 game machine to drive growth of its console business, the head of Japanese videogame publisher Square Enix Co Ltd said.

"Sony first unveiled the PS3 as a mighty home electronics product. Then, after some badgering from game companies, it shifted the position of the console closer to a game machine," Square Enix President Yoichi Wada told reporters on Friday.

"(The future of the PS3) would be tough if its marketing strategy is not straightened up," he said.

Sony's PS3 is packed with cutting-edge technologies such as a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player and a Cell microchip, dubbed "supercomputer on a chip", making it advanced enough to be a hub of living room electronics, a high-speed gateway to the Internet, as well as a game machine.

But on the downside, these state-of-the-art capabilities drove up manufacturing costs. The basic version of the PS3 retails twice as high as Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii.

The high price and scarcity of strong game titles have caused the PS3 to lag far behind the Wii in unit sales since their launches late last year.

In a sign of changing fortunes of the two Japanese video game makers, Nintendo in June became one of Japan's 10 most valuable companies, and in doing so, bumped Sony off the top 10 list.

Shares in Sony, locked in a battle with Nintendo and Microsoft Corp for dominance in the $30 billion video game industry, closed down 1.4 percent at 5,640 yen, while Nintendo fell 1.5 percent to 52,900 yen.

Square Enix, known for such blockbuster game titles as "Dragon Quest" and "Final Fantasy", was up 1.1 percent at 3,750 yen.

The man has a point there Bucky. The Strategy Sony took for the PS3 is not perfect at all, there's no denying that. With more people buying the PS3 there will be more customers for Final fantasy 13 that will come for the PS3. Comparing the technology of the PS3 to the Wii's is far fetched however, of course the Wii is cheaper to produce when it misses a ton of features.

The Wii and PS3 are not comparable, but the 360 and PS3 are and they are not far apart at all. Atleast the PS3 has a failurerate of 0.8% and not over 30 like the 360

I don't know where Modock get's his misinformation from, but with those invalid arguments I wish him all the best with his 360. I hope it overheats soon :thumbup:

2. You pay for what you get, I'm not paying $500 just for the graphic card here.

Hmm I got a PC, do I really need the Xbox 360? Most likely not, since most of the stuff is coming to PC anyway.

Actually.... the failure rate for the PS3 is - BY DESIGN no less - will be 100% within 5 years.

Yes, every single PS3 ever made is engineered to fail.
