So, the Halo 3 full-court press of publicity is in full swing now. Linky
Personally, I haven't seen too much of it except a couple of TV ads during football games, and ironically I have heard more about the Halo 3 blitz from news sites covering the Halo 3 blitz :bucky!: Anyway, I'm kinda curious what you all think of M$ latest ploy for world domination? I kinda have mixed feelings here, I guess. On the one hand, seeing the video game industry showing up in the mainstream media with a no-holds barred blitz feels like a little bit of vindication for all those years of watching the business that supports my hobby emerging. On the other hand, I don't think I like where this is likely to head. When I think of over-exposed, I can't stop thinking of the nauseating media overload that Disney hits us over the head with everytime they release a movie. They have gotten so bad that I personally have boycotted them. Oh, and just so the rabid $ony fanatics (Gazz) will not hijack this thread, lets start off with: MS sucks and Sony Rules.

There was one place I saw Halo 3 last night I would have never expected to: The Discovery Channel! It was in a show called Future Weapons. Never thought Id see the day when Discovery had a non educational game in its shows.
I don't really care for Halo so, I don't pay attention to most of this crap ![]()

What amazes me is that this game in particular seems to be the most hyped game. It looks like an early DX9 game, it's storyline is mediocre at best with Halo 2 just being bad and it's mp features have been copied from tons of other games who even did a better job at it.
Even the 360 has way better looking games with a better storyline then this one, I just never got the point in this game and I really don't see why a man or young boy would want to play with pink dolls in mp. I can see it now, texan father walks in on his son gaming with a pink doll in mp and son gets tossed out of the house ![]()

While Sony and MS have been playing the graphics one-upmanship game in a very predicatable progression, Nintendo did the unthinkable and basically repackaged the Gamecube (last-gen graphics and all) with really nice motion controls. The results speak for themselves. I am beginning to think that graphic-philes (my word) are kind of like audiophiles, a very minor niche market. I am neither of the above. Halo3 graphics make me perfectly happy, in fact Wii graphics are just fine with me. If I can readily identify what the object is supposed to be without an explanation or a sign telling me, then I'm good to go. By the same token, expensive sound systems don't impress me. Just make the sound effective and I'm happy. Nintendo has cashed in on this, and looking at Halo 3 I am wondering if Bungee took a page from their book and said "Toss the graphics, make it smooth and fun and we will sell boatloads of em"

I doubt it, it has to do with graphical style more then the graphics itself on the Wii. Everything on that console is crisp clear due to the fact everything is basic with big heads.
Here's a screeny to clarify my point: ![]() Looks great for this game and genre. Then comes Halo, a game on the 360 that's able to run way better graphics at a decent framerate and they come up with just ugly shit. Especially for that retail price and I personally believe the most hyped game should be one that sets us to a new standard in gameplay, graphics and sound and not throws us back ages or should at least make us pay half for this game since you don't get more then that.

You have a point about the Wii graphics, but I don't consider Halo 3 to be "ugly" by any stretch. In fact the game looks downright good to me.
But seriously, they can't charge 1/2 price for Halo 3, after all they have to pay for the Media Blitz! ![]()
