Alright... I just came here to get some more opinions about this argument.

For those of you who don't know, theres been an uprising of people writing programs and allowing the Wiimote to act as a mouse for your computer. While I find that this seems like an interesting concept, I just don't feel like it is or will ever be as effective as a mouse.

The whole argument started over my friend sending me a video of a guy playing WoW with the wiimote.

My opinion was that there is no way thats effective (switching through multiple skill bars by having to click the little arrows, and then clicking on the icon for the actual skill itself seems chaotic, even in town. Anyone who plays WoW and goes into a single decent Alterac Valley knows how chaotic those battles can be... imagine how much hell that would be.)

In summary, my friends argument, and then my argument.

My friends argument: the wiimote shows potential to be as effective, if not MORE effective than a mouse.
My argument: theres nothing a wiimote can do at this time, that a mouse can't do BETTER.

More opinions on the whole thing. Gogogogogo. Discuss.

The only real advantage to mouse over Wiimote is the fact it isn't prone to trembling hands or slips that much trough sweaty hands. The Wiimote can be perfectly used if your idea of fun is slashing into some creature at a slow pace in the money and real life absorbing world of warcraft, it will just fail in any type of First person shooter, rts or anything alike.

Had you guys seen the video of a guy playing half life 2 with the wiimote.
Of course I rather use my KB and mouse but it was pretty tight for aiming.

There's potential for the Wiimote to do more than a mouse. You can twist the Wiimote and it can turn something on-screen. You can also move the Wiimote forward and backward to move something from the foreground to the background. Thing is since the PC doesn't use any games as far as I know that actually take advantage of it it's pretty much useless except maybe in the freeware community where people can make games specific to the Wiimote.

If you play Metroid Prime 3 you'll see some of the stuff they've put into that game. Some of the twisting puzzles, moving objects back and forth, etc. Actually, foreground and background moving has been a little annoying in that game, though. Maybe it's where I'm sitting while playing the game but I find myself having to repeat pulling the energy tank out of the wall before it successfully works for some reason.

Not to mention how sluggish it is to turn. The thumbstick is fine for forward/back/strafing, but turns past 90 degrees are painfully slow.

The game tries to side step this issue by having cutscenes when you would normally reverse your course, and you are facing the direction you need to go coming out of them, but it also showed that the wiimote has serious limitations.

No, it is not going to replace the mouse/keyboard or dual thumbsticks for that matter.

Im probably going to buy it once I received my Wii.
Well I might rent it first.
I know i'm gonna get Zelda for sure
But let;s say a gun game it think holding the wiimote like a real gun and shooting people would be as good as a mouse the only problem is moving side ways.
But in a shooting game where everything is pre determined like time crysis I think its nice to play with a wiimote then a mouse.

You have to change the control scheme to Expert Mode to make it go faster. Once you do that it's a heck of a lot better. Personally, I like it better than using thumbsticks.

However, there are some strange problems with it I could see causing trouble with different style games. Getting the game centered once you start it up is one of them. When I first exit the ship I always hold the wiimote a little sideways and the view is going all over the place before I get it centered and aiming properly. In Metroid there aren't any enemies at save points. However, if I were in a deathmatch I'd definitely see having the problem of getting blown away once I spawned because I wouldn't have time to start moving because of that.

I mean.. there are some games (such as time crisis, where movement isnt such a key factor) that i could see the wiimote lending itself to being better than a mouse.

thing is... time crisis is an arcade and console game =p, but really a pc game.

i do agree though.. there are definitely certain games that lend itself to a wiimote. this video displays rez being played with a wiimote, and i think that would totally complement the gameplay on a whole new level.

as far as FPS's go though, and generally any other game where precise movements and reaction speed can determine the difference between life or death, i just dont see it being as effective as a mouse and keyboard.

and imagine anyone circle strafing around you! it was stated that large turns are generally a pain in the ass to do.. but how bout doing it constantly while shooting, and just... LIVING in general? just sounds like too much hassle for my worth.

The main problem is how much your arms are going to ache after a long session! All hardcore Wii players will end up with arms like popeye!... ugg, ugg, ugg!
