360 gets Blu-ray add on and 360 loses huge marketshare.
Big enough gaming news to get it's own topic instead of putting it into the other one. Discussion is what this forum is for anyway, even though I love the new features.
Microsoft has announced it will adopt the Blu-ray standard as their new add-on. After investing in the doomed from start HD-DVD to try and hit Sony and in particular the PS3 they took their losses and only shafted their loyal customers in the ass with it. Let's hope they make some type of trade in program. Apparently MS is shifting focus on the Wii now in hopes of getting casual gamers. I wish them the best of luck with that as that's even more hopeless then trying to undermine the Playstation brand.

In related news, with the news of Blu-ray becoming the market leader for hd content (DVD will still be around for ages as it should be), sales of 360 have dropped in it's home market, the US. PS3 (and the lovely Wii) have passed ww sales of the 360 for a few months (respectively year and a half) already, and now start eating away market share in the last market dominated by MS (Wii is set to outsell the 360 in a matter of weeks in the US and already passed them by 4.5 million consoles worldwide).

I got trashed again and again for saying this stuff since day one and I just love being right in the end. Well, I was never wrong of course.

No, actually the attach rate on the PS3 and Wii are higher then on the 360. Software sales may be higher in general, but that's completely due to the 360 still having a larger userbase. The Wii is the leader by far in the software department and PS3 is rapidly climbing.
Devil may cry 4 for example outsold the 360 version by 10 k WW. Most of that has to do with the fact that the 360 is the pirates choice of console. PS3 has yet to be hacked and which casual gamer ever heard of the option to hack a Wii right?
Atleast with Blu-ray as an add on to the 360 we know of one part that is engineered properly and won't RROD on ya.

RROD was mainly caused by the GPU

That's a common misunderstanding. It was actually caused by the solders holding them down. The heat of the GPU caused the Motherboard to bend and then the solders broke. That's why the problem still isn't fixed in todays 360's and everyone is waiting for the new mobo codenamed "Jasper" The problem got smaller due to more effective ways of dealing with heatflow, but the basic problem still continues when stressed enough.

Thank you Bucky for posting US figures (of just one chain of stores even, how reprasentitive) instead of WW software sales as we are discusing here. Do we even have Gamestop outside the US?

Hardly, plus Xbox is pretty much dead in Japan, not to mention PS3 has the 5gb install process which is starting to be a trend in the Capcom camp (Lost Planet is next with also 5 gb install, and it looks like shit)
