Ya know, I just have to interject here Even though I am not sure that the PC Gaming Alliance is going to do a whole lot to help PC gaming, I don't think that PC gaming is going to be dead anytime soon. We go through this conversation everytime the new gen consoles come out. Why? Tis simply because they are new! There is nothing more to it aside from this casual game kick everyone seems to be on lately.

Consoles are great don't get me wrong but, PC gaming will always be better. I know lately PC gaming has been in a slump but, this is usually the case when the consoles release. Yes, I know the piracy thing is there but the consoles have the same problem it is just not as evident. I know tons of people that have modded their 360 and Wii.

Sooner or later, games will come back to the PC that consoles can only dream about running. I know it doesn't seem that way at the moment but, I have faith! I foresee in a year or so the PC game market making a comeback to where it was. Why? Tis the simple fact that most of us spend our day on the computer and a lot of devs know this. Piracy or not, the games will come and they will be great!

I would have liked for my little rant to make a bit more since but, I am getting over the flu and having a beer or six so, I just don't care

The sad truth of the matter, my friend, is that PC gaming becomes more and more irrelevant with each new generation of consoles released. As Gazz pointed out, the only thing even keeping PC gaming in the conversation is subscription MMOs.

You better believe that Blizzard is frothing to get WoW on a console and when that happens, the final pegs will be knocked out from under PC gaming. We will still see the indie and niche (a la flight sims) markets, but the days of AAA titles for PC release are very limited.

I am going to have to disagree. PC gaming is not where it should be not because of the consoles, tis because you have all these devs that think you have to spend 10 years to make a spectacular game on the PC! They invest all this time and money trying to blow away the PC user and trying to test it on a thousand different PC configs so everyone can play. This is not a bad thing but, seriously, just make the thing for a mid PC user and all is good as it will still look as good if not better than on a console! Not to mention there are just some games that are much easier to play on the PC.

No one is ever going to convince me that an FPS is easier to play on a console than a PC. Sure it may seem that I am going off topic here but hear me out. Think of Spore. This game looks spectacular! Seriously, I am really wanting this game. You think you could play this massive, complicated game without a keyboard and a mouse? Well, you could on the Wii I imagine but the 360 and PS3 controllers are just not made for this kinda thing.

The PC has always and always will be where the new and innovative titles come first! Sure, the consoles will have some but, nothing like what the PC can and will do.

Ya know, if I ever get my thoughts together in a coherent rant, you guys would have nothing to argue about! lol Damn kids bugging me every two seconds and I lose my thoughts. Oh well, I have time to argue, bring it on bitches

I play console and Pc and compare to eating full meal vs lots of appetizers. Both are great, can provide sustenance for long period of time. At one point when console gaming began sucking in pc gamers I was worried that it would also attract all the good game develpers and woe to any Pc players but I am now confident that with more games being released in multiple formats that we can have our meals and appetizers too! Still waiting to hear if rumours of 3rd Champions of Norrath is true ????anyone ???

Here’s what he had to say: “I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and “Gears” is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what’s driving the PC right now is ‘Sims’-type games and ‘WoW‘ and a lot of stuff that’s in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That’s the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we’re doing. It’s important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at.”
That’s a Cliffy B update. That’s the state of the man who brought you “Gears of War” and will, this year, bring you… what exactly? If we’ve learned anything, it would be on console. It wouldn’t star Zack.

From Mark Rein of Epic Games (head honcho)

Epic Games VP Mark Rein has laughed off Cliff Bleszinski's recent claim that PC gaming is in "disarray", pointing out that PC gaming is Epic's "heritage".

"Cliff's an idiot!" Rein joked when we asked about the comments during a GDC interview. "I'm kidding, obviously."

We asked if he had words with the Gears of War designer. "Oh yeah," said Rein. "Hey, Cliff is Cliff, and he's making a console game, and that's what he's focused on, so that's what his thinking is all about.

"But as a company, we make PC games. We love the PC, it's our heritage, we want to see it be strong, and we want to sell games like Unreal Tournament III and Gears of War on PC, and have them sell as well as they do on console."

Epic Games is among the first to sign up the PC Gaming Alliance - an organisation set up to help promote PC gaming, and Rein said it was an easy decision.

"As soon as they invited us we said 'yes, here's our cheque'. It took all of ten minutes to decide we wanted to be involved in this."

I'm already done with PC gaming, and Homeworld 3 will not be released on the consoles, trust me.
