FINAL FANTASY 8
In FF8 you play as this kind of angsty loner kid who's trying to join a mercenary group called SeeD. During the first couple of hours you're doing warmup / exam missions, getting to know the mechanics, the characters, and so on. My screenshot app didn't work that great at first, so most of the screens in this post will be from when we're sent on our first real mission, to help a resistance group in a town called Timber.
Early impressions? Combat is weird, graphics look generally better, the music is pretty good, some complexities have been removed, and some have been added. More on all of this later.

The map is better this time. Pressing select changes the map view, and one of them even shows the name of town/city when you move the cursor over it.

Everyone gets really sleepy all of a sudden.

And somehow everyone's dreaming the same dream. Three guys are moving through a jungle, driving to a city, dropping by a hotel, and seeing this girl.

The guy comes with Julia to her room, but they only chat, and he falls asleep.

So here we are.

In the actual mission we're basically intercepting the train that the president is on, by unhooking the cart, replacing it with a fake one, and escaping.

Things seem to go pretty well.
