Yeah I guess they wouldn't put out just anything.

I've seen some videos of the hardest monsters, and they're pretty tough. I ran into some and got almost instantly vaporized

You probably mean the underwater weapon and the desert one, the underwater is pretty easy it does a attack depending on your materia, the more materia you carry the higher the attack, i won him with Cloud=Omnislash, Barret=Gatling attack(been awhile), Tifa=Limitbreak

Instead of tifa yyou could also try cid=Highwind.

By the time I was done I didn't even have any level 4 limits. Cloud's last attack was actually the first time I did the omnislash. I'm sure they're do-able when you've done the right preperations.

The first time I ran into the underwater one it did about 8k dmg to the first character (about twice what the hp it had), so I said screw this and just continued on with the main story

What kind of loot do they drop?

It's been awhile when i played, so don't remember but the desert one, drops a eternal flower or something, if you give that flower to the old man in calm you get the master magic, summon and command, means using 1 slot for all the magic, 1 slot for all the summons and 1 slot for all the commands. ;)

From the old man you also can get a gold chocobo and a underwater materia that's for your fight with the underwater weapon it stops the time

FINAL FANTASY 8

In FF8 you play as this kind of angsty loner kid who's trying to join a mercenary group called SeeD. During the first couple of hours you're doing warmup / exam missions, getting to know the mechanics, the characters, and so on. My screenshot app didn't work that great at first, so most of the screens in this post will be from when we're sent on our first real mission, to help a resistance group in a town called Timber.

Early impressions? Combat is weird, graphics look generally better, the music is pretty good, some complexities have been removed, and some have been added. More on all of this later.

The map is better this time. Pressing select changes the map view, and one of them even shows the name of town/city when you move the cursor over it.

Everyone gets really sleepy all of a sudden.

And somehow everyone's dreaming the same dream. Three guys are moving through a jungle, driving to a city, dropping by a hotel, and seeing this girl.

The guy comes with Julia to her room, but they only chat, and he falls asleep.

So here we are.

In the actual mission we're basically intercepting the train that the president is on, by unhooking the cart, replacing it with a fake one, and escaping.

Things seem to go pretty well.

Continued

We start kicking his ass

and he turns into this. He's kind of annoying because he afflicts characters with some pretty annoying status effects. He doesn't hit that hard though.

Nice, don't forget to give Gfs as sometimes they drop from the character, if they left for abit.

1 tip: don't give too many GFS to 1 character as the EXP wil get divided to all.

Yeah it's funny how many times the game has reminded me to set gfs

There'll be some kind of long quest text, and then finally "oh and I should remember to set gfs"

Thanks for the tips

I stumbled across this review that ends at about where I've made it thus far in the thread. It's surprisingly funny, and it seems I've missed some neat stuff even this early in the game. Oh well.

It's by far the longest review I've watched of a game, but the guy is really funny.
