Looks like this is the way to the underground.

Dwarves and Red Wings fighting.

The castle of the dwarves, who I'm helping out.

Golbeze the douche. Somehow he always seems to end up with the crystals.

This is a semi secret area that I stumbled across. Pretty funny talking to the developers.

After beating up some mini bosses I save a ninja, who joins my gang.

Sucks having to kill your own disfigured parents.

Cid just DOESN'T die. He lends us a hand by modifying the airship so that it can drill through earth.

Just as I grabbed the earth crystal this thing showed up.

Urgh.

With a bit of effort we managed to summon a legendary airship from the sea. This'll let us get to the moon, where Golbeze is headed for the next part of his plan.

So after a little trip through space,

we reach the moon.

FuSoYa tells us that AMB is in fact the child of some big moon guy.

Once we made it back to earth a huge robot is heading towards the nearby town - probably not to help build stuff.

Fortunately a bunch of my buddies came to help fight back the robot. After a bunch of fighting Cid could fly us inside the head of the robot.

Inside we fight a bunch of things, including this thing. As soon as he's defeated he allows us to summon him during combat, which is super nice.

Eventually we reach the control room.

Robot go boom.

Fact about Final Fantasy: the apparent bad guy is always related to you somehow, and is usually controlled by some higher entity.

Yeah.

At least Cain is normal again, and helps us out of the robot.

Ok so the plan was that I'd finish up FF4 by the time I went on vacation, so that I could start off fresh with FF5. Even after some serious marathon sessions I only made it within about an hour of the end, so I'll have to wrap it up when I go back home in August. I even brought the save games here, but apparently they won't load.

Final Fantasy V

The game starts off with a guy being worried about a wind crystal. He hops onto his dragon, and heads for the mountain where it's kept.

Yep, something's definitely not right.

His daughter Lenna heads off in search for him, because she seems to sense trouble as well.

AMB returns once again, and you stumble across Lenna just after dodging an incoming meteor. You team up along with an old guy, who's also apparently headed for the wind crystal. His memory isn't all that great, but he's useful as a monk.

Jobs are back in Final Fantasy V, and work pretty much the same way they did before, though eventually there are more to choose from. In addition there are a bunch of abilities that you get as a character fights monsters while being in a certain job. These abilities are assigned in a menu, and can be mixed. An example from my first few hours was how I had one character play as a knight for a while, until he earned an ability that let him use a one handed weapon with both hands (for extra damage). I then bought him an axe, changed his job to normal (knights can't equip axes), and had him do pretty solid damage using the two-hand knight ability. Other examples could be a white mage with black mage abilities, a knight with summoner abilities, and so on.

We traveled through a pirate area, trying to find a ship to borrow.

Sailing is difficult without wind.

Well what do you know.

Since we couldn't really get anywhere by boat we went looking for the dragon that Lenna's father used. He was injured, and needed some special herb.

We got it for him, and he agreed to take us for a ride.

Graphics have definitely been improved. This is the castle of the guy who controls the water crystal. Since the wind crystal broke from overuse we tried getting the people here to not use the water crystal as much, but they didn't really care.

Uh, oh.

Meteor incoming.

Other initial impressions? Really nice music, the character animations are a lot better now, the combat works a little better than in FF4, and the environments seem a bit more atmospheric. Looking good so far.

I have a bunch of game series in my backlog that I'm nowhere near done with, so the next extravaganza could be zelda, wizardry, or maybe ultima.

game sessions i already did:

Metal Slug 1-6
HALO 1-3
Quake 1,2 n 4 (3 doesn't count)
Splinter Cell 1-4 (4 was the worst. 3 got all the goods like not killin anyone but target and stuff like hitman)
Hitman series (forgot how many it were)
Sonic 8only the Mega Drive and Sega CD ones)
Castlevania (that was rather dumb because you realise how lame and unorigina the laters are after playing the first couple.)

perverted series session:

Firefly+ Serenity movie
Life on Mars (greatness!!)
Black Books
Spaced
Californication
Arrested Development

Anime sessions:
LAIN
El Hazard (I mean all EH - TV and OVAs)
Tenchi Muyo
Vampire Princess
Galaxy Rangers
Starsherifs

At least once a month moi and ma friends do such sessions. We also tried Movie sessions like Akira Kurosawa or so but ofter the 3rd movie we all felt like hanging our selfs
