June 24, 2008

Continuing the journey to try and secure the remaining crystals.

Not much luck.

When the island you're on suddenly sinks that's not good.

Good thing our buddy is here to give us a lift to somewhere dry.

In jail, and look, here's Cid.

Another crystal blowing up

Next we headed for the ancient library, where some pretty weird mobs greeted us.

Galuf keeps having flashbacks that remind him of who he really is.

Flashback time

Thanks to Cid we now have an airship.

Oh and this thing just took off.

To get in we have to kill the individual canons.

Going through the place we team up with the king.

Galuf's grand daughter shows up to save the day.

The last crystal breaks and Exdeath returns. Bummer.

Heading off to the second world.

Early we run into pretty big gangs of mobs.

We get locked up.

And held hostage by Exdeath. In this pic we're projected to the sky so that Galuf (king in the second world), can see us.

Exdeath's best buddy.

Kupo?

Kupo!

Exdeath's castle got blocked by a huge protective shield. We went to the control building to try and shut it down.

But things got in the way.

Welp.

Next we went for this forest where Exdeath was imprisoned years ago.

Oh no

Serious fighting

Galuf unfortunately didn't make it

We did end up giving Exdeath a beating. But did he really perish?

Back at the castle. AMB is in love.

Guess he didn't die after all.

Agreed

But then it's "Game over", Kami. Those old games only have one storyline

Ok big update this time.

We start off going through a pyramid. Like in most FFs when you're getting close to the end you need to stock up on badass weapons and spells.

Annoying robot dogs.

Yep, we're going for the esper Bahamut, which is in fact kind of weak in FFV.

It's pretty big though, and against mobs vulnerable to fire it's pretty much awesome. I forgot to take screens of the fight itself though.

Next we head through the ancient forest, and what do you know...

Exdeath up to no good.

Exdeath opens up a bunch of portals and lots of innocent people get sucked in.

Fortunately not in the temple that stores the twelve legendary weapons. Here you bring a stone tablet, and in exchange get to pick out three weapons.

Unfortunately a lot of the best armor is tougher to get. Genji armor for instance needs to be stolen by a thief. I couldn't be bothered, because thieves suck.

The chicken knife is actually the weapon with the highest damage. It's super annoying though because it starts off very weak, but gets more powerful as you escape battles. A couple hundred times and it's good to go. The only problem is that when using it there's a certain chance that you'll escape. This sucks if you've killed every enemy but one, and then just escape, giving you zero experience etc. I liked using it with bosses, since you can't escape those.

Using the Bahamut esper.

In order to get the spells Holy and Flare the party needed to split up and do two towers at the same time.

Heading into the portal to the cleft of dimension.

Exdeath's cute little buddies.

Ok we're definitely getting close now.

And here he is.
