Google browser sync. Also, when you've migrated, move your bookmarks to del.icio.us. It lets you tag them, which makes it a lot easier to quickly find what you're looking for. The bookmarks get stored on their server (privately if you want), but get the plugin for firefox and you're set.

Install Opera, let it import all that stuff and then uninstall the old FF version. Then install the new one and import the bookmarks from Opera. Or copy and paste if that fails (or stick with Opera
About your passwords: preferably don't save them, since this is pretty insecure (especially when working with an old browser).

Here's my list of plugins I use, they might be of help to you. Find them yourself in German btw.
Chatzilla, used for IRC. Ad block, best program ever to block all ads. British english dictionary. Download status bar, for no real reason other then I tryed it. Foxmarks, bookmarks synchronizer software. No script, blocks all java thingys found on the web including multiple ads. Not recommende for lazy people. PDF download, for opening pdf files on a external server to not get any virusses (hopefully)

Start>Search, also select advanced options and select system maps and hidden files too. Search for this map or a similar one: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and copy the profile to your desktop or wherever you want.
Upgrade to FF version whatever which would allow you to keep your bookmarks and passwords anyway if memory serves me well (I upgraded to 2.0 a year or more ago) and if it fails then find the same map in FF 2.0 and put the files back. Before doing that you should of course make a copy of the 2.0 files to somewhere just to be sure. If this is too complicated for you, then you should have realised that you should have upgraded ages ago. Why you bothered to keep an outdated version of FF is beyond me anyway. 1 more post and you hit 10.000, you sexy spammer.
