Well, Steam would be the first if I think off being successful with digital distribution. PSN also seems to be doing a great job with more people registering every second then on Live (amazing since Live has been around since the original Xbox). I tunes completes the list off companys being just as successful, growing to be as successful or completely surpassing the live success. We are also not talking about a few million copies of an os, but of a console franchise that sold 220 million consoles to date (ps1,2) and millions of gamers that influence their surroundings. The impact of a non windows os on such a scale should not be underestimated for a single second. Especially not since the pc would be brought into the living room tv on a huge scale for the first time.

The PS2 simply lacked enough processing power and a proper online service, thatś why Sony announced plans of a fully functioning os on the PS3 and MS jumped on the ship shortly after that for damage control. As far as one company I'd put my money on to deliver hd gaming, video and Music I'd surely look at Sony which already has itś own music and Movies and a strong network in that department. As far as the games go, we just had the huge impact of MGS4 and the list of AAA exclusives is only beginning.

The PS3 division may be 3,5 bn in the red now, but if you look at the impact that Blu ray (also in that loss) had on tv sales off Sony you start to wonder iff losses are as bad as they seem at first glance. Funny enough Sony even profited from the 360 in their tv department.

Btw: Assen is being closed down at this very moment in preparation of the TT night. The night before the races in which Assen turns into a massive drinking fest. 4 hours and I am off

PSN - That would be the online shop and download centre right? A content delivery system is more than that and Sony don't have any history AT ALL in that department. The joke that is the PS3 OS or what I refer to as POS (Pile of Shit) is absolutely horrid. How on earth you can sit there and compare it is beyond me. I own a PS3 and I am embarrassed by its ridiculous OS. Sure it looks nice under the HDTV and it doesn't keep the house warm in winter, but I would prefer to have M$Live! on it instead.

Digital Distribution as it exists at the moment is more mature on the 360 and if you look about on youtube, etc you can see the full featureset in regions where it is enabled. The reason why Sony are taking so long with theirs (the core product was ready months ago) is because they want to and absolutely MUST get it right. They want to deliver ads, tv, movies, music, games and demos to you in a way that has never been seen before and in a way where people of all generations can pick it up without the need for degree in computer science or a MCSE/CCNA.

With th release of PS3 firmware 2.40 just around the corner the only things that are great about Live or the 360 porrods (pile of rrod shit) ,achievements and in game xmb are finally matched by the free and exact same service that is PSN.

The only reason that Sony still hasn got it to this point is because MS forced them to enter the market before they were ready. The reason why itś services weren complete, a full linux OS able to do all basic tasks and more that over 90% off all pcś are being used for, went missing and games like Lair, the first resistance, and uncharted only looked mediocre when compared to titles like MGS4 which were intended for release shortly after the planned release date of the PS3 just a few months ago.

Digital Distribution as it exists at the moment is the most mature on the PC, and things like the 360 only made such small baby steps in that field that overtaking them isn't an obstacle at all. Digital distribution on the 360? My ass, the 360 is so incapable of being a online machine, it doesn't even have a basic accessory like a browser. Typing with a controller is far from perfect, but itś nice to atleast have the option. I guess MS is more then aware that putting their failure of a poor carbon copy of FF they call internet explorer simply would fill up their failing hardware with failing software.

Also, since we allow these xbox cards on GH (only allowing one card on a independent multi platform site is not cool btw) the servers here have been giving us the busy error all the time. Coincidence? I think not!

If there's a PS3 equivalent I can probably add that fairly easily.
