Why is Ubisoft using quicktime as their standard movie format?
I noticed both the new Farcry 2 and brothers in arms trailers are in .mov format all around the web. New commercial deal or something? Quicktime is a decent player and all, but I don't want to have Itunes and Opera and an STD included.
Screw you Apple!

Yay, someone else who hates apple quicktime too!
Just download and install the quicktime-alternative codec and media player classic instead!

Yeah media player classic is great, i either use that or mediaportal. Together with nvidia purevideo and coreavc i'm getting some great performance on 1080p

DivX rules!
And I hope all those trailers will be in OGG Dirac in future, since may become a good alternative to DivX when it's development is finished. Though I think it will take a while (after going "alpha"), until it has become multiplatform (instead of sorta Linux-only).

As a potential customer (Brothers in arms is already in preorder actually) I want Ubisoft to adapt to me. They are a commercial company and I want them to use something whichs adjust to their customers. Not have their customers adapt to whatever deal Ubi makes with a company whoms pc's are not suited (or hardly, even Linux beats OSx by a million miles)for gaming or anything else. Mac owners can stare at the exclusive design of their pc just like the rest of that generic bunch of users. Screw them and their moms.

Don't think they'll adapt to ogg dirac when there's x264 and h264 now.
Oh and gazz you didnt have any problems using .mov videoclips to add in moving stuff to a sig in your tutorial ;)

"HD codecs" are only fun if bandwith isn't a problem at "both sides" of the connection. And that stuff needs a lot of it. Even if a majority of the people had a connection of more then a few hundred KB/s, it would simply be to expensive for an owner of a webserver to have enough bandwith. Just think of Stage6 (with a lot of 720p stuff in DivX, quite HQ but still a lot better compressed then h264 afaik), that went down because of the costs. So dvd quality is the limit I think, and then DivX, OGG Dirac (or Theora) and .wmv are better alternatives.

The problem isn't that I don't know how to get a .mov file running since I absolutely do.
I just don't want to!

I agree with that.
Quicktime sucks, because it's not having any strong points, only "works" if you got adiitional codecs/players and last but not least it is from Apple.
And Apple is evil!

I know what you mean and I didn't want to point out that you wouldn't know because i sure as hell know that you would know else i'd rate your computerskill very low!
I'm just pointing out you weren't complaining back then about .mov files, but alas there's always quicktime alternative. I like Itunes though it's just that Winamp has much more options for setting up, in regards to my multiple sound cards!
