Galactic Conquest: the end ?

For those of you interested in Battlefield 1942 mods, you probably already heard of Galactic Conquest (or Star Wars Battlefield, as it was initially named).

Well, it looks like you'll never be able to try this mod because the GC team has been contacted by LucasArts and they've been asked to shut down their website


Here's the mail i've received today:

"This is The_Preacher 2D/3D artist for the Galactic
Conquest Dev team.

I would like to address a few issues regarding saviours comments. (please
tell me it was saviour lol i have a bad short memory)

well, first off please dont lay into the lad as he is not wrong, as far as
what he heard.

Yesterday was a complete day of confusion, worry, and panick.

He is right in the fact that GC had ben contacted by Lucas arts. And he is
also right that they have told us to shutdown the website and we agreed.
(that is why swbattlefield.com doesnt link to jolt anymore)

now, what i would like to happily announce, is that despite this, we feel we
have a strong enough cause to fight this as its unfair treatment towards
ourselves.

so we have decided to continue with the mod as always and act as if it never
happened, (whilst in th background of course we will be sorting this mess
out)

News posts about this have not been posted on our site, as we dont want to
alram everyone, only those who were in our IRC channel would know, so thats
why u see no news posts about it.

so dont worry guys, we are going to continue until the lawers coming nocking
on the door

we hope to release before that happens so u guys get at least 1 release of
GC.

hmmm, there is a UT2003 mod like this one (might be the same team i dunno), and John Lucas didnt like them either.

p.s. the only reason they shut the mods down is because the mod teams make better games than they can make

"The rumours going around the community of Lucas Arts shutting us down are untrue, we are still very much alive, as far as we are concerned its business as usual, the modellers are still modding, the skinners still skinning, coders still coding and mappers still mapping.

Lucas Arts always has something up their butts when it comes to anything they ccreated! I can understand this to an extent, but come on, they havent released anything worth a crap in a while. They should be thankful for the publicity
