Battlefield 2 1.5 Update Dated
Battlefield 2 will finally see the 1.5 patch after DICE confirmed it is to release on 1 September. The 1.5 patch which has been in production for over a year will come with the Euro Forces and Armored Fury expansions added in for free. Also included is the new map Operation Blue Pearl and will bring the total of new maps to eight.
Don't expect to be download it and play straight away unless you have a super-speed broadband as the patch, which will launch 5pm UK time, comes in at just over a hefty 2Gb in size.
For a full list of what will be included in the patch head over to the official announcement here.

Honestly I didn't like BF2 very much. I still own it yes, but it ripped apart the arcade-y feel that I loved from 1942/SWoWWII/RtR. The original was something you could pick up and play fairly easily if you were a nub, yet doing certain other things like flying and successfully driving a tank took practice. BF2 just took all that out, including the fun...

What!? 2GB? That's insane. I remember how the 1.4 patch was 500mb+, which I thought at the time was huge for a patch, but how do they justify a 2GB patch? My whole install for BF2 is 2.05GB ffs!

Well, 2 additional map packs surely account for a good 700-1000 mb I assume. Don't know about the rest though. Luckely I download 2mb a sec and 2 gig should take me 1000 secs. Installing will take it's sweet time though

Thanks for the reminder I'll have to download it. Seems odd that it crashed on the second map? I don't suppose the game runs any better does it? Perhaps better memory optimisation?

Well, the game now allows more then 2 gb of memory to be used. Haven't noticed to many differences so far, but I have only tried it once and crashed.

Nice, but has it removed the artillery strikes and fixed the FOV problems with Widescreen displays?

The issues with widescreen displays have been fixed. Artillery strikes are still present. Players can now pas claymores though in prone mode which is cool
