New Rating System

The video game industry has unveiled a revised rating system featuring more prominent rating displays on game boxes and more detailed information on the kinds of violence featured in some titles. The Entertainment Software Rating Board said in a statement issued on Thursday that depictions of violence in games would be described by one of four new categories depending on where the action falls between slapstick caricature and more realistic portrayals of injury and death. The new, more detailed ratings system comes as the video game industry is fighting off attempts by some local governments to ban the sale of violent games to minors.

Actually I agree with Syanide. When IDSA introduced the first rating system the government got more lenient towards violent games, so games like Doom II and one game with some scalantly clad sorority girls were released, which probably would've been harder before that happened. The article says that they're trying to keep up with the growing age of average gamers, which is good, because maybe then developers will be able to make games that are bloodier, and have as much violence as movies. I just hope they're able to keep the youngest players away from the nasty games, because if not then Lieberman will probably throw a fit and ruin everything.
