Just finished reading Masters of Doom, a book about the two Johns in id software, and it was truly a great read. The book starts off describing the early lives of Romero and Carmack, and later how they were tied together making games. The book covers pretty much everything the guys did, relationships with other people, what was cool, and what wasn't. Of course the whole ion storm / daikatana situation was included, but I think it's good that the author managed to not put the blame of the breakup on not just one person.

This book should be compulsory reading for any gamer, so head on over to amazon or whatever and grab a copy.

Compulsory for any gamer that gives a damn about the people behind the games. I'm not one of those. ;) But I'm sure it's interesting if you care about Tarmack and Romeo.

The story is actually a lot more entertaining than you might expect, especially considering how it's about the lives of a nearly robotic programmer, and his complete opposite. The book also tells a lot about the sociological impacts that wolfenstein 3d and the doom games (in particular) had, but I guess if you're not interested in the past then it's simply your loss

Oh my. I do apologize if that sounded rude to you Sir. I can assure you that it was not my intention.
I am quite busy at the moment reading a fantastic trilogy about the Knight Templar named Arn Magnusson. Hmm, I wonder if it's available in other languages than Swedish?
I loved shooting at Romeros head in the end of Doom 2.
