Exactly what I expected. Fast-paced action and gorgeous graphics. Runs silky-smooth on my Athlon XP1800+ with GF2MX400 and 256MB DDR-RAM.
Tried the beta and almost started to give up on my computer since I got some reaaally crappy framerates. But with this demo I can run in 800x600 16bits with all details on Normal and get jawdropping GFX and decent framerates.
I'm not a hardcore UT-fan, but this one I'm most definately buying. Ok, I bought UT when it came out also, but that was for playing the excellent MODs Strike Force and Tactical Ops.

i think that ut fans will be happy with this game but i find the graphics of the famous unreal engine quite low...
i tried it with a geforce4 ti4200 with all details on, the game engine look like the one of quake 3 with a bit more polys and only a few effects. Games like medal of honor, Serious sam 2, Mafia, No one live for ever 2 ... have better graphics.
Sorry but i really think this game come to late.
I hope they will make improvements for Raven shield

They didn't include all the spiffy high-detail stuff for you monster-PC-owners, hence the small filesize.
I've seen too much whining about this being a "rip-off" of Q3 and I'm getting quite fed up with it. It is NO WAY NEAR being like Q3. The physics in UT2003 is supreme.
I'll bet you'll change your mind if you try the final release of this game.
Anyway, like we say in Sweden: Smaken är som baken. Delad.
(Translates into: Personal taste is like your butt. Split.)

Ok where to begin. Flame me all you want because this is my first post, but it doesn't mean that I cannot have an opinion.
When I tried the demo my first impression was "what the hell is going on?" It was so fast and so hard to hit people it was entirely ridiculous. Call me a newb but this was my first time playing it. When I finally got the hang of it (racked up a few frags) I took notice of the environment and detail of characters. The one thing I really liked about UT was the differences between all the characters you could use, in this they all look exactly the same from far away and just a little different up close. Â*
Also noticed a bit of netcode that needs to be worked on, I ran across a bridge, then 2 seconds later I had to do it again. Mind you I'm on DSL so it's not the fastest but this is the only game on my computer that has this problem. Â*
All in all I would agree with the previous post, this demo came a bit too late. There are other games with more original ideas and better graphics.
You can say they didn't add all the options for the demo, well from my experience even though that demo was a 100MB download they probably did add all of the graphics options in it. I honestly do not know any option that could make the graphics and playability look and feel less like Quake 3.
The merger of UT and Quake 3 didn't work. They should have come up with a more original idea with better mapped areas and better characters. My 2 cents.
*waits for the flames*

I couldn't agree more with you Digital Death. Â*I got into competitive gaming through UT with Xeno clan and was long time player however this is just an old game polished. Â*I am bored with the doom run kill grab kill dodge kill die get weapon kill. Â*That about sums up the first four minutes and four hours. Â*There is no team work necessary, there is no difference in characters asides from looks, heck asides from some modified weapons and new game modes it could be UT with spiffy graphics. Â*I have already gone back to more strategy thought involved games like T2 and Battfield 1942. Â*Too bad I was really looking forward to it.

Umm, may I ask WHAT did you agree with?
If you've been into competitive gaming for a long time then you should've done your homework and know that UT2003 will have loads of new features and will kick Q3's ass. (Ok, maybe not BF1942's ass...)
To the newbie (hey, we've all been there):
Go and read a little about final version of the game and what will be in it before posting your thoughts.
The final release will have 50 characters.
And a final note, the Artificial Intelligence had been improved a LOT, so even BOT-matches can be a blast.
Now you all may think I'm a die-hard fan of the UT-series but really, I'm not. I just don't like ignorance.
Now, BRING ON THE MINDLESS FRAGGING (flaming?)

That's exactly the kind of response that I would expect from a Q3 gamer. I may be going out on a limb here but this game is parallel to Q3 all the way. The ORIGINAL UT had at least some sense of strategy. This has 0 strategy. The maps are so tiny that there is no need for strategy, it's all run, frag, kill, grab, run, frag, etc.
You are right, I hadn't seen the part about the 50 characters. But to reiterate my previous post, you could add 100 different bots... and it will still be Q3.
Also, please tell me what kind of Artificial Intelligence is needed for a game that you run, frag, grab, run, frag, grab. Sometimes grab a flag or grab the ball. It's all the same idea, just depends on each map. I have the AI on the hardest setting last night and I watched 3 enemy bots run behind my teams ball carrier just firing blindly, while me and the rest of my team wiped them up and then we scored. That's AI? If that's AI then this game needs some mental help.
As for me being ignorant, that may be so. But really what kind of mentality or intelligence do you need to play the same type of game over and over where your purpose is to kill the other people in the map over and over. Mindless repetitive fragging. At least Battlefield brings something fresh to the table, and not just the same moronic ideas that spawned a whole generation of ego maniacs trying to get the most frags out of life.
P.S. To the unregistered... at least im registered.
