I knew the word "help" would make you look. XD Alright, on to more important things. I have an Idea for a video game. Most of you have probably heard or said that one yourself, hm? Well, I know alot about character creation through an intricate background and involving past that would move the player. A nice fluffy past with children and flowers and peace wouldnt fit with a character in a war game, hm? And it certainly wouldnt move that type of player. Anyway, to put it short, I'm a writer. I've written a few concepts for games, but I'm seriously interested in making my most recent one come true.Problem number one: I know nothing about coding, I cant use Actor FX on this computer, or anything like that. I know I should find some people and talk with them about it, but do you know how hard it is to find people who are GOOD at this stuff? I dont want my character to be created in a 3Dworld, with a 3D body and have shitty animations and lame ass voice overs. Problem number two: Is it possible to put Grab moves, "Bonebreaker" moves, and Disarms on the Glacier (Hitman 2, Freedom Fighters) Engine? Not to mention a form of bullet time I'd like to work with. If you're willing to help me, please, give me a call, neh? Actually, just Instant message me. My MSN is "Nail_Vas@hotmail.com" my AIM is "Otaka Gengo." I'm also in touch with a guy that helped with Everquest and Asheron's call 1/2 coding. XD He's cool. |

well, first off.. if you want to take the role of armchair designer a bit further then you might want to read the game design docs and tutorials at www.gamedev.net and after that you'll probably be able to structure your idea more
you can also look at the book Chris Crawford on Game Design, and Andrew Rollings And Ernest Adams On Game Design.

My personal advice would be to get yourself a foothold in the market wherever you can, much like I am. You've basically got the same idea as me, and I started by writing some reviews, so that someday, I dunno, I could work my way up. It never hurts to get a foot in somewhere. Getting mentioned is the first step to getting noticed.

But to answer your question - yes, team leader should at least have a general idea of WHERE he wants the game to head, and that's impossible without knowing at least enough info on every aspect of the game... Remember that 'project leader' or 'lead game designer' is the one supervising and guiding of the rest of the team... It's the same thing as an army officer - he's not specialized enough in order to use all the equipment and weaponry his troops do, but he knows exactly what their job consists of, so he can direct them.
