I find the quoted spec difficult to take seriously i'm afraid....
I played the leaked version on my old AMD AthlonXP 2100 with 512Mb 333Mhz DDR and a GeForceTi4600 and it ran smoothly, obviously without the DirectX9 specific instructions. I should imagine the tech spec will be about: Minimum: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP Intel Pentium 3 733Mhz CPU or equivalent processor. 256Mb RAM Microsoft DirectX 9.0 ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce3 with 64Mb RAM 500Mb Free HDD space SoundBlaster Live! with EAX extensions Recommended: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP Intel Pentium 4 2.0Ghz or equivalent processor. 512Mb or higher RAM Microsoft DirectX 9.0 ATI Radeon 97xx (Catalyst xx.xx) or Nvidia GeforceFX 5xxx (ForceWarexx.xx) with 128Mb or higher. 3.0Gb Free HDD space Soundblaster Audigy with EAX3.0 |

The thing is that you said "to play it to the max". These specs are probably pretty accuate. You can play it pretty smoothly on lower system specs, this is how the game was designed, to be scalable to the hardware. In theory it should run smoothly on just about every system that meets the min requirements but it won't look as good on a low end system as it will on an Athlon64FX with a 9800XT and a gig of RAM. Sense it is scalable the min requirements will probably be fairly low as far as next gen games go but that also means it'll probably not look that impressive running on an old system. ;)

If you want my opinion, go search for the old thread, the discussion about HL2 specs. is old.

The thing is _XSoniX_ is that a vast majority of people have not played the leaked version from anonymous so they have no idea what the hell they are talking about. As I said at the top of this thread I have played it extensively and to be honest I only had it installed for a week, because the code was so unfinished I thought I would rather play it at a more complete state in order not to ruin the experience.
My comments on the leaked version are as as follows: 1). Good graphics, but absolutely NOT breathtaking by any stretch of the imagination... I have played it extensively on a NVidia GeForce4Ti 4600 and a ATI Radeon 9800. 2). Good physics, but not really that different to Max Payne 2. Havoc is havoc, end of story. 3). Good level design (from the maps that actually load!). To add to my previous post, there is no way you are going to need a 2.8Ghz class CPU to run this game smoothly. NO WAY, there is simply not enough in the game to warrant that kind of CPU usage, its all about graphics throughput and all you are going to need is a higher than baseline DirectX9 card to appreciate its full graphical splendour. Obviously with Valve spending most of their time building around ATI's implementation of DirectX9.0, the game will work best with a 9600 and higher GPU, the only benefits you are going to get from the higher spec Radeon as far as I can tell is is faster - more efficient fill rate...but I am not 100% sure on that. Nvidia owners will have to wait for both Valve and NVidia to patch the game to run through NVidia's implementation of DirectX9.0, but out of the box performance should be more than acceptable for owners of the GeForceFX5xxx series.
