I truly don't understand why people rush out to buy the next video card the moment they come out.

I am running an ATI Radeon 7200 w/64DDR and you know, it is very, very seldom that I can't run a game a max detail with great frame rates. I am just now starting to think about stepping up to an 8000 generation, or Geforce 3, and I will be able to pick one up for around $100US.

Meanwhile, people will be spending 400+ to buy a video card that developers won't utilize for another 1-2 years.

You definitely should get a radeon 8500 or a geforce 3. Next year a whole lot of games will use pixel / vertex shaders, which will create effects that an older card just can't deal with.

Doom 3's config file has an option where you can turn on / off nv30, so obviously it'll look even better for owners of that card.

I'm sure the card won't be cheap, but keep in mind that nvidia has a lot of competition from ati, so they can't charge a fortune when people could get cheaper radeon 9700's..

Im Sure ur all aware that ATI are already in the process of building the Nvidia NV30 Killer & it will make the NV30 look like an outdated Voodoo2, like the 9700 pro did to the Ti4600, so save ur money & buy an ATI Card, cos Nvidia Have Lost there edge.

I know this Reply is gonna upset alot of ppl, but hey, except the FACTS, Nvidia are Second Rate, Long Live ATI Â*

You're looking at this all wrong, man!

Keep saving up for a Geforce3, the prices are gonna freefall now that it is 2 generations behind. There is no point in buying the latest, greatest vid card, developers are just now starting to fully implement the features of the Geforce3, buying a 4 or later is pretty much a waste of money, unless you just want bragging rights.

I'd have to agree with Bucky and Apophus...

Yes, it's good that video cards technology moves so fast, as having -1 or even -2 generation video card is still VERY acceptable, and the prices are fairly decent for them.

And yes, I just can't stand seeing people be so in LOVE with one particular company. Time changes and often other companies provide better solutions. I can't say that the new NV30 is something AWESOME and MUST BUY, just because I know that ATI will probably fight hard for the market and come up with something better...

When are these new cards going to be released? My GeForce 2 died yesterday and I will be hunting for a new card that will last me for a long time so I have been thinking of buying one of the "next" generation cards. Anyone who knows when the NV30 or the NV30 killer will be released?

Unless you have $400 to blow, then I would suggest a geforce 3 ti series or a radeon 8500 or above. GeDorce is more towards gaming and Radeon is more towards movies and such. Of course that is just an opinion
