this is in the wrong forum area i know but people dont seem 2 get many replies in gamers help
 basically i play counterstrike quite a lot of the time i use my p.c and i've recently reformatted, for some reason whenever HL or steam is reinstalled on my comp my ping (only on CS) goes absolutely nuts! this only seems to happen wen the action starts to hot up. i am well aware that steam has its fair share of issues but if theres one thing i hate...........its lag, and i fork out for broadband every month. i find it funny how i can geta ping of 12 on a ut2004 server with 30 people in and a ping of 200 on the likes of counterstrike!? anyway any feedback help whatever would be appreciated cheers

Completely remove steam and install that again. After that, install couter-strike and Hl. See what happens now

i didnt realise you could now install HL without the cd from steam! duhhhhhhhhhhhhh i always used 2 use the disc then get steam, well i did what you said but now my CS just stops responding wen i load up a game :nxs:

That is extremely weird. I installed steam many times ( including CS) and never had a problem with anything. Maybe it is your steam? Your computer? Spyware?

steam is almost definitely the problem. it's a buggy app and i don't know anyone (other than milkdud) who hasn't had a problem with it at some point or another.
there's a chance it might work with another format. but don't hold me to that :P
