I would like to have a lawyer, but I think we can mirror it... looks like 3dgamers got a mail in advance... we didn't... and we're euroboys... so maybe we are entitled to keep it for real.

Anyway... why Microsoft should endorse all this? To make FilePlanet rich? This way 1/10th of people would download the game as fileplanet is ALWAYS busy and 99% of people will not pay to grab a demo... after all it is a DEMO.. a FREE DEMO...

Fileplanet has become the bane of the internet. I am not sure what kickbacks they offer to the distributors, but it is beginning to "chap mah hide". I always believed in paying whatever the fee was for those shareware programs if i liked it and wanted to use it. I even payed, i think it was 20 dollars or so, for a lifetime membership to gamespy, back when it was just a game matching service. Lucky me I lost my login and password (heck it has been so many years I quit using Gamespy as all my time went to EQ for the past few years) and I changed emails a few years ago, but I am doubtful my lifetime membership would amount to much anymore anyhow. Good to see my dollars went towards creating a service that now screws the gamers it was designed to aid. All this has made me somewhat more sympathetic with the warezers. The companies all know we want to play their game demo as soon as it comes out, not a few weeks later. So what if their game sucks? Can I demand a refund from FilesPlanet? Heck, why dont everyone that pays for the service, if they download a game they dont like, file a lawsuit (if needed) against the distributing company for a refund. they are obviously getting some kickback for using the Fileplanet, otherwise why not make it widely available? The more people that can get a demo of your game, the more interest you can build up in the game, the more potential sales. Its just not good marketing to make people pay for something that serves the sole purpose of making them want to buy your game. What is even worse is that most people will just shut up and take it, either paying for the service, or waiting until "public" release. Its disgusting.

ummm... point of order, this is not a demo, it is a stress test.

Still..... Fileplanet must be stopped!
I dont want to go from my years of having a free lunch to being told if I want to eat, I must either pay or wait till the next day when it is old and moldy.
As for it being a stress test...... I have work for that, no need to test me on stresses.
[edit:] blame it on built up annoyance after the Raven Shield debacle, and a movement towards exclusive releases for Fileplanet, which could lead to, over time, the end of the free demo dowloads as more people try to get a part of Fileplanet's deal. It hurts the independants, which are the soul of the gaming community, who host the demos and review the games as a service to the gamers, not as a service to the companies.
