I just downloaded some lengthy in-game vids of counterstrike source, and I have to say that i'm really really unimpressed.
The game looked nice, but that's about it. Far from a doom III beater. And as for the physics... WTF?! There were barrels littered throughout the levels (all of which looked identical, but that's beside the point), and the physics on these things were piss poor. The player could just run into an overturned barrel, and it would pretty much fly through the air infront of him, there was absolutely no weight on it at all! The same went for bottles and other random objects. IMO the physics looked like the worst i've seen in recent games, everything was completely over-exaggerated just to show off. There were a couple of nice things though, grenade explosions looked awesome, and there was an eerie mist in some dark places which looked pretty cool. But other than that, thumbs down from me! The weapons didn't even look particularly detailed.

lol whatever guys. there's all new physics in source. in case you don't know, when a guy dies, he falls with ragdoll physics. he doesn't fall the same way every time he dies like HL1. maybe you didnt see in the video, but a CT is shot, and his body fallse down and slides through a crack in the wooden bridge. bullets hit the water and make realistic splashes, any vehicles will be MUCH more realistic, and there will be plenty more cool stuff that we don't know about yet. go ahead and say it's nothing now, but you haven't played it yet. i don't play c-s currently, but i had for a couple years and i haven't played for probably 4+ months. so i'm no fan at all of the current c-s. but source i think will be like a whole new experience.

its all jus been blown out of proportion over the last 2 yrs, everyone would probably be looking at the game differently if it hadnt been ass licked so much threw yesteryear? it should have been released sept last year no more questions asked everyones happy no shitty monthly subs bills things like that are gonna totally ruin a highly anticipated game which might not be all its cracked up 2 be...................hop3 it is though! ;)

everything seemed to be completely overexagerrated, and nothing reacted as it would do in real life. I hope they do some major tweaking before the final release.

Well, I think we all should underestimate source that quick, since it's really a fantastic engine, probably the most versatile one in the current gaming industry except Carmack's engine...
What stands out the most are the DX9 effects, like when you leave a dark room to a sunny enviroment, the sun hurts your eyes, explosions, fire, water, etc... The physics aren't really that poor, their just Havok 2.0 without much customisations, object do have volume, friction and buoyancy, that's just havok! What I really think sucks the most are the shadows, they're even worse then Max Payne, and don't soft shadow I saw a HL2 vid where a huge container was dropped onto a soldier (at the seashore), the magnet of the crane holding the container casted a shadow on the floor right through the container itself. While the container ofcourse should block have blocked that shadow. However, source has some of the most advanced techniques up their sleeves, mark my words it's going to rock every gamers world! .... they won't top Carmack's engine though, he's got everything covered, he had more cinematic effects in for doom3 in 2001 (Mac Expo) then HL2 has now ... gameplay shall decide the winner of all discussions going on for the last 2 years just my 2 cents...

I still install every now and then CS only because of the fun memories of the good early days(when the mod was for free).
It just can't keep up anymore. and it's not only a graphic thing but the whole gameplay and other technical stuff...I saved to many hosies and blew up to many things already in my life....now I grew old and a lil bit slow...so I have settle for something like for a radioacvtive zone and sneak from behind stealing artifacts...but back in my younger days...... Oh yeah, I havn't seen anything about the source engine that is that great. The physic engine is not a part of the source engine but rather a plug in. graphics are good but not that good. I found the graphics in FarCry(while not my favorite sinse it's all to shiny) was already better than anything that valve showed besides the DX9 clip...but that wasn't even an ingame clip. So, gonna play "The Last Express" now...one of the best ever....no, it's not a FPS :dennis: ![]() |
