Quake IV

Now that Doom 3 has been released, ID Software will probably be focusing on some secret project along with patches to doom3. Meanwhile their co-developers Raven Software are developing a game. Yes, you guessed it. Quake IV.
Quake IV was supposed to be shown at QuakeCon this year but sadly they've changed their mind as the game still isnt ready for showing.

There isnt much on the internet about this project (except old old news) but I found lots of concept art here:

Rumours say that

?¡ New physics engine
?¡ A remade Doom3 engine (opengl 2.0 , fragment shader,etc...)
?¡ appx 40 weapons (futuristic design)

Now thats just rumours, remember!

Is it a single player game like Doom 3? Or is it like Q3 Arena?

i suspect it's primarily a single player game, for the same reasons as doom 3, but im sure they'll throw in some good mp action as well.

Raven are a well respected development studio and will, rather expectantly, produce a higher than average game out of the new ID Software technology. Raven have been acclaimed for many of the products they have produced whilst developing closely with ID Software, a partnership they have maintained since the early Hexen II days. The Soldier of Fortune franchise is of particular note as Raven have pushed the Quake III engine to its prime with their precise modification to ID's code, however, for whatever reason, they have mostly missed out on the top accolades... which due to the recent release history of the company is usually down to not spending enough time polishing the product above the norm.

The say all and end all of my post is this: Raven will probably end up releasing a similar product to it's father (ID's Doom III obviously!), because they are essentially the same end product... which will be, surprise!, surprise! A generic shoot anything that moves FPS with cutting-edge graphics that leaves all players short-changed because it only contains 10 hours gameplay and will only rely on endless bonus packs and multiplayer modifications to become a worthwhile investment on the publishers part.... :bucky!: ... Well, they said already Q4 is gonna be SP oriented. But MP should be in it too...that was a no brainer :P

I played Q3 on the Dreamcast a lot when it was about! I loved it. I hope they make the mp the same way again.
