I saw the review of Scrabble Complete and thought I should pass this along.

Anyone that buys this game and runs it on their Windows XP computer runs a risk of damaging their MB or Processor because the game causes the CPU usage to run continuously at 98%. This can eventually cause "heat death", or destruction of the CPU and/or Motherboard because of excesive heat.

I've contacted the company about this, and even though they do acknowledge that the Scrabble plus does do this on Win XP, they don't want to acknowledge that it is unusual for a software program to do this, or that this can harm a computer.
I'm convinced that many people that run this game (including your readers) stand a good chance of losing their computers.

Wow! Thanks for passing this information on. That's a pretty serious bug on their part, hope it gets cleared up before many people fry their hardware.

Just out of curiosity, did it happen to you? Is that why you know of this?

I'd have to partially agree with 'guest' on this one... When I play any of the more recent games on my machine (ahtlon 1GHz), the CPU usage at all times is 99%. But I still play them for hours and nothing happens because of my mighty powerful cooler (Volcano 4)...

But then again, I see no excuse for something as non-CPU intensive as Scrabble to do that, so it is indeed their fault. They should probably release a patch for that or something... DGittins, what's the speed of your CPU?

This cooked my Mother-in-laws 800 Mhz Duron. She loved the game, and so left it running all the time.

And no, you shouldn't need to install a cooler. If the game requires special hardware, it should say so on the box, under "Requrements". This isn't billed as a graphics intensive game, and it isn't aimed at the hardcore gamers that might install special coolers. It's aimed at little old ladies that can't afford to replace their fried CPU or MoBo.

My Mother-in-law is lucky 'cause I bought her a new systems!

Ain't ya the nicest son in law around?

And this again reminds me why I hate XP... Even billed as "the perfect home entertainment OS" it has so many problems that other OSes didn't. I guess I'll just stick with my WIN2K until 2005 or something of that sort

Um, if your PC dies from playing Scrabble (or any cpu intensive program, for that matter), shouldn't you be more concerned about the quality of your PC?

They introduced XP to sell XBOXes ... that's clearly their project... both things share an X in the name!
