The PC version will officially be LAN only as we don't have a contract with any matchmaking service(like gamespy for example), mostly because those services tends to be pretty expensive. And we won't have time to implement and test a matchmaking service of our own either. However the game will be internet enabled in a way that you can connect to any computer on the net using either an ini file or some commandline parameters. The networking code is mostly the same as for the xbox version, so it's designed for internet, taking latency and bandwidht requirements into account. So given this, it would be easy to support Flatout in any independent matchmaking program. If anyone is interested to unofficially support internet play like this, he could PM me, and I will make sure he gets the specs needed to support it. It's even possible that we will release a patch with a matchmaking server that can be run on any server machine. But don't quote me on that, I can make absolutely no promises at all. |
