Anyone who cares already knows.
Anywho... I might technically benchmark it later, but the nvidia cards seem to show increases in performance in most games on linux over windows. ATi... well... the X800(pro or XT i don't remember) is fighting the FX5600 for FPS on linux, but ATi is promising some majorly better drivers, and after what ive seen them do in just over a year on their windows, im very confident  |

ATI Linux drivers suck eggs compared to Nvidia's. The flgrx driver is a complete turd to install even on the distros that ATI say they support. I have tried installing the flgrx rpms on Mandrake, Fedora Core and SuSe to no avail. Nvidia's rpm's however install without any problems and in some cases the distros are Nvidia hardware accelerated out of the box.
In terms of performance Nvidia hold the edge due to their excellent OpenGL experience. I pray that the rumours are true and that ATI are indeed pushing resources at creating a nice linux following. I don't think I can stand my standard VESA compliant acceleration much longer. If I could get Catalyst 4.91 peformance in linux, I will never ever buy another version of winblows again. |

the X800XT is now neck and neck with the 6800GT on windows Doom3 High Settings.
the x800pro is fighting the fx5600 in linux unreal and so on. Really sad, its not even on there. installing them is still a major pain... They are promising a change, after what they did in the last 1 year on windows(completely flipped the drivers world, took the crown in driver stability& performance, and now with CCC, features and innovation), I belive them. Good to see some linux users around here.. How many of you besides me live in the US though... |

As for us linux boys we are still a 'huge' minority here, but month by month we see more dual-booters creep in. Not many 100% native supporters though, but maybe in a year or two. ![]() I'm from the UK btw! |
