Half-Life 2 Scores 98% at PC Gamer (US) I just found this little piece of info. This suggests nice things, very nice things. Maybe it'll be a revolutionary title after all....

Half life 2 will rock, I really cant wait for it. I doubt that it will be rubbish - And everyone who is moaning about how "Theres gonna be no hl2 multiplayer", ITS HALF-LIFE. THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE HUNREDS OF MULTIPLAYER MODS TO LOOK FORWARD TOO. I personally cannot wait to get hold of it, I cant wait to start making maps for it, I cant wait to animate for it - The face poser system looks amazingly cool. Come on valve release it!
Also, the people who are complaining that they "Aint seen anything great about it yet either", Please explain to me what you think would make a first person shooter great? Thanks.

Sepht has said the same bullshit in every forum going, for a guy how supposedly doesn’t think hl2
will be all that good he sure talks about it a whole lot. he talks a bit about the tech innovations of farcry, which I suppose is justified, but the thing is someone had to do it sooner or later. had hl2 came out when farcry did it would be the same story with reversed names. I think most people missed the greatest parts of half life because they aren’t things you can interact with, such as the variety of game locations. not only that but the game was made for an extremely limited engine (by todays standards) and it still stands up to all the scrutiny. sepht obviously has very little foresight and cannot see the innovations in hl2, such as the manipulator gun. that alone stands for a great deal. its basically the same as other fps where you could pick up a chair and hit people over the head with it ala XIII etc... but it has been "manipulated" honed and tweaked into a very interesting gameplay element. but what comes as part and parcel of that innovation is the staggering degree of accuracy of the material physics, the weight of objects in the game has been almost perfected, things do what you would expect them to do. the way that this game will mover things forward is by little baby steps of subtlety, but with so many of them that it will cover the distance required to make this game the best game ever released to date. for the people who say that the graphics in hl2 aren’t that impressive I point you toward the video stress test in cs:source. a very impressive display of the source engines capabilities and a hint of the best graphics that will be seen in the final game. maybe sepht should go read his copy of pc gamer or pc zone if he lives in the uk and see that pc zone gave the game 97 the same as it gave the original, only the original did it in a time when its own graphics were revolutionary, just wait until November 23rd and then come back to this forum with a fork and knife and eat your words as a foot note i would like to say that the person at ID who thought it would be cool to steal the pda idea from system shock 2 should be taken out back and shot in the head. |

Nov23rd? where did u get that? the game isn't even gold, it won't come out for up to a year beacause of these lawsuits. Fycus made a good point in saying "to get the real score for doom3 subtract 10% from all intial reviews because of fanboys and hype" The rule stood true more or less true(id say 5-7%). It will stand true for HL2. HL2 is interesting, but its nothing new. (theGrayFox knows the truth!) Come back whenever Hl2 comes out and ill be sure to show u its faults. Anyhow.. HL2 is in the open, it can be downlaoded from several FTPs and torrents. Do with this info what you wish, be upset that the people downloading it can play it way before the fanboys, find a link, whatever. |

I don't exactly love arguing about HL2, thx for the complement tough Arguements and debate are good things for a forum, they(if performed by peopel who know their stuff), can bring incite and sides of stories youve never heard, and help despense what is fact, what is hype, and what can be said by people, not the marketing division of companies. If you want an example that never came up. Doom3 has bad mulitplayer, yes, thats obvious, its shit multiplayer because they never deisgned its aspects correctly, thats not an excuse, but it is a fact. Originally it was going to be 4person P2P MP. when the SP was done in about May-June 2004, the P2P code still had serious holes, so they couldn't deley it for that and so when they went gold, they annouced the MP for doom3 was going to be Server-Client instead of teh P2P they were working on for 2 years, amount of time spent on doom3 netcode? under 6 months from the looks of it, probably more like 1-4 months. No real time at all. (if u want the proof, the initial annoucnement of P2P MP is in 2002 E3 records, for the first comfirmation of Server-Client MP? July(or was it June..) 15th. THe day Doom3 went gold. However Carmack has spent his last few months after it went gold not working on their next game, but patching Doom3's rendering and working on its MP, so it can be a good base to work off.(source: gamespy) |
