The latest craze is seems to be the soft focus effect known as Blooming, used in DX2, Thief DS, NFSU 2 etc. I also have a sneaky feeling it's used in Full Spectrum Warrrior too.
I know it looks cool but it destroys frame-rates on mid range graphics cards, i call for it to be outlawed for two reasons 1. In games where accruacy and pin point reflexes are required blurring the vision of the player reduces playing performance and generates a sub standard gaming experience 2. It discriminates against mid-range card users forcing them to either upgrade or turn off the feature all together. I realise that many of you will comment on just disabling this feature but what is the point of including features that are suppossed to enhance the game and yet is fundamentally flawed

if by blooming you mean blurring and or glowing... MoHPA and Guildwars use it too..
and uhh.. http://humus.ca/ his opengl demos show all that shadow, glow, and blur stuff running fast(some might be d3d..)

The name of the effect is actually called Bloom sepht so it's not what he mean, it's what it is
 Just wanted to lear that up :thumbup: I love bloom by the way. It doesn't look very realistic but who cares when it looks that good. And sure it lowers the framerates on older cards but it's not that bad on my old overclocked gf4 that it destroys the game, not at all. |

okay of the games mentioned that have the "bloom" effect, they all have the option within the game to TURN OFF the effect. so what are you complaining about?
