What do you think of the new forum layout?

I like the way they split all the genres into serapate catagories, but I think they overdid it by giving halo 2 and half life 2 their own cats

it was done and will be done for games that will have lasting effect, HL and CS are still played a lot and so is Halo, Halo2 made 120+ million dollars in it's first 24 hours :O so we are interested in building a community around lasting games as well as a community for dedicated GH visitors.

we will be adding more individual forums for other titles soon just because it's worth it and it will keep some people seperate from others to discuss their favorite game, it's not too fun to have to sort through a bunch of posts just to find one for the game you like, all in all that makes people shy away, we don't want that

.

the forums are arranged now to allow everyone the comfort of the old forum style and the accessability of the new style.

we will see where it takes us

Personally I like hitting one link for all game rated topics;
MMORPG/RPG/Adventure
FPS/3rd person shooters
Sports
Strategy/MMOStrategy
Action/Platform
Simulations/Sims
is overkill.

Popular games forums are nice.
Too bad UT2004 forum didn't take off.
Not that I posted much or even post much.
GH to me is a place for game dissuasion in general.
For more in depth UT forum I already go somewhere else.
Half-Life also.

thats what I think. and giving the game of the moment its own forum is pretty useless too. In a few months itll be back to how it was.

After more thought I agree that the game of the moment is just more post I'll miss.
I do not see my self hiting all these links to read what ppl have posted. I do not live here and value my time. I want to see what ppl are saying as easy as I can.

If someone makes a thread in Strategy/MMOStrategy Will it show up in General game forum?

And please bring back Hardware to where it was.
You could even put Art below Help.

In the header of the page, where your controls are, there is a link for "View New Posts". That will gather all of the posts you haven't read since your last visit in one nice, convenient page

Well I guess I don't need to be validated.

If I come here and scan forums without login-then 3 days later I hit view new post after login...
or always login and after 18 hrs of time I don't get a chance to look at some post then hit view new post again the previous list is gone.

Or some thread is kick around in the back of my head I'd like to find again...

Why fix something that isn't broke?
The expressive language thing is classic issue which is no big deal to me either way. It would be nice if we could cut down on name calling.

The issue at hand is that the way the forums used to be organized, it was good for a fairly low frequency of posts.

We are trying to set this up so that it works well for a high number of posts. Imagine if you had to dig through an entire page (or even better 2 or more pages) of posts in the GH.com forum to find something.

We are setting it up so that posts are easy to find by genre, and whatever is the FOTM.

This layout isn't set in stone, we will take another look at how it is going in a week or so.
