okay so i downloaded hl2 off steam and played it and stuff it runs fine. when i go to offline mode it says "offline mode is not ready" but i can play the game when i'm online! what's with that? if i right-click on it and click properties while online, it says like 83% or something but i can play it so for some reason it thinks it's not 100% downloaded when in fact it is so because it thinks wrong, i can't play offline... stupid! i hope valve fixes this soon.

yeah you can play with steam online right now, and where it says 83% thats an update its getting to allow for offline play.........is it just staying at 83%? if so try restarting your steam........anyways once that gets to 100% it will say under it "ready for offline mode" then your all set...........

This is interesting...everyone feared preordering the game was a bad idea, but know, some people who bought the retail version are having problems! I laugh with scorn at all distrusters in Valve!

Create shortcut to HL2 using Steams menu for it.
Close Steam
Open HL2 via icon
It will verify the program for offline play
..play

you seemed to be saying that as if it would work that way...but no, that was not of any help at all.

ok heres the deal!! dude if you wanna play in offline mode you must actually be offline, if you have internet connection on, then steam will connect no matter what..........why does it matter to you anyway? having steam running doesn't slow your comp. at all.........this is the wonderful world of anti piracy, this game is really sandpapering good so if you want to play it i suggest you suck it up and deal with steam running in the background..............
geezzz i'm sick of noobys crying about this steam crap, its gotta be about the most simple program to use........ :bucky!:

Regardless of how simple you think it is to use, there is no reason anyone should not be able to play the game just by popping in the cd. I see no reson why you should have to install and have to connect to the internet just to play a sp game. Noob or not this is a annoyance that should not be there
