HL2 Textures missing?

In most levels HL2 fails to load certain textures (usually appear as black&pink squares instead of the original).
It gives me the error:
[ ***Tried to load a non-VTF file as a VTF file! ]
[ Error reading material "XYZ"]

The XYZ just represents the different types, there are so many missing I've lost count.

Another problem:

[scene 'scenes\citadel\al_weak.vcd' missing!]

- again lots of these come up.

Does anyone face a similar problem?

uhh...........no, it sounds like you preloaded the game from steam right? and your proly....uh...missing files!!
i would redownload the whole game if i was you...the problem with preloading this game is that people started getting it like what?4-5 months ago, anything could of happened to thoughs files within that time period.

OR you are having problems with your video card, that may be the case...

black and pink squares heh? That reminds me of BF1942 on a 64mb nvidia card.

Well I completely formatted my pc & preloaded hl 1 day b4 its release. I also doubt that its the card - Ati 9800xt.

No I don't have any problems with that. I started preload like 4 months ago and I don't have any problem at all.

Yeah I had the same problem, it's the 4.11 drivers.
What I did was go turn off that AI crap that the 4.11 drivers turn on by nature. The pink and black junk disappeared for me then. Also the driver crashed for me at that point but it's expected with ATI drivers, at least for me.

I got that problem. It can't be my videocard or the driver cause i have sapphire x850xt PE with the latest driver and i have the original cd's of half-life 2. When i look at the console during the game, many error log appears. I don't have any problem with textures but : scenes/citadel/al_weak.vcd is a video so, maybe the prog. cut that vid from the game and forgot to erase the key.
