for many replies in past, say half life 2 is a complete rewrite, its still has the base of quake code in like i said many times http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/35074/

yeah well, i remember quake 3 had an awesomely stable engine, even on low-grade computers. i can understand Valve had some interest in it.
well, a rewrite is i think a darn hard job. accounting for everything isn't something you do everyday, if you know what i mean. so i don't blame em, they delivered one helluva piece of gaming goodness...

quake code -> modded for halflife /added color lighting - most noticible thing
half life - > added new Ai and physics not coded by valve -/with some more work on lighting = source when running, you can hear your hdd cache`in, and running on a proxy of a java applet

I think it's really paphetic to try to give certain tech a name so it might sound cool. Quake Engine is because it was made for quake, Doom for DooM and Unreal for Unreal. but what da heck is a source engine...sounds like an decease from the middle east. that's like when SONY puplished for the first time their PS2 chip: Emotion Engine....why not just call it honkeytonk dildo or hulahoop jogurt...that way it's at least funny.
