I must have the 'uber 1337' version, because Rome is, technically, a turn-based strategy. And yes, I was referring to the building management, rather than the battles. I would rather the battles be intelligently controlled by AI. For instance, the player can formulate a battle plan, and have secondary control over the war, but the game will continue, and the player doesn't need to fight the wars themselves - they will continue if they leave the system. Planets are pretty big, and it would take months, if not years to capture one. Of course, this would require some form of time dilation or some pretty clever use of perception...
And @fineliner - its taken me around 2 years already, and I haven't finished the documentation yet I'm using Gamemaker6 to make this version of the game, and I'm a pretty advanced user, so it will be fairly easy, but not too fast. |

In a word? No. So for the moment, the game will be based around the player. So there is still a HUGE universe to explore, with many and varied factions and such, and ground and space battles (reminiscent of Star Control II and MOO2 ground battles). But it isn't first person, you can't customise stuff, and the universe doesn't *really* go on in the background - it focuses on the player. Theres heaps of little things to make it interesting though, like sudden pirate attacks, searching ancient derelicts - ProjectX style. The main feature that links my ambitions and my reality (for the moment) is the MASSIVE storyline, which details everyhting from the events leading up to the present situation, right down to exactly how the ships travel through hyperspace (I know a little quantum theory/relativity). But the real project won't take place for many years, not until I've got a company (or been hired). FINGERS CROSSED

i was thinkin of kinda way to make the games looks more realistc: what makes the world around look like what it is is that it isn't perfect, no straight lines, no walls with no holes in 'em and so on, well, in the gaming industry, all the games are designed with a polygon mesh wich is with straight lines perfect walls etc... i would like to see a tool for new games, such as a "random anomaly placer" , wich would place all in the gaming world, holes, graphical tweaks, such as bricks on the wall, painting getting out or else... it would be very difficult to render but we can dream!
With this, the games would look more like the real world, and with the arrival of 64 bit texturing, the colours would be very complex giving a fade aspect....

If I had the chance to develop my perfect idea of a game, it would be this: (hope you have the patience to read it all! Id like to know what you think..
)An open ended free to explore FPRPG (much like System Shock 2 or Deus Ex 2 actually done well!), with no cutscenes and complete immersion, and not necessarily with any guns! It'd be set in a huge busy realtime world like GTA but less cartoony with more gritty realism. The story would be intricate and complete from start to finish, no trilogies or different episodes, just one volume on the level of some of the best novels. The story would be along these lines: (Im no novelist btw and forgive the complete cliche that it is! )The game begins. You gradually wake up in your bed as what was a vivid nightmare turns to a crazy blur of ideas, and then is completely forgotten. You're in a luxurious bedroom, silk sheets..?..theres soft light pouring in through a large window. You get up, get washed, get dressed, and head down the large wooden spiral staircase. More soft light washes the tall open hallway. The house is obviously huge and expensive! As you enter the kitchen you can smell something delicious, and you meet your beautiful wife for the first time that you can remember, cooking breakfast. She greets you and kisses you on the cheek, notices that you look a little confused and asks you why, but you cant give a definite answer to how you feel yet. She tells you you're gonna be late for work if you dont get ready soon, you have an important meeting that you are chairing in an hours time! You're bemused at the whole predicament your in, it all seems too good to be real but you'll quite happily go with it for the time being! You want to know more! You get ready, say your farewells to your wife, pick up some pretty snazzy car keys with a 'Z' emblem on it and head outside. The day is hot, and the sun shines brightly (with HDR!) over the stretch of driveway in front of your stately home, and on the driveway sits parked a glimmering, beautiful Pagani Zonda (S!) You laugh loudly in disbelief, but you know you're gonna start her up and hear the roar of that 7.3 litre V12, and tear up the countryside roads on the way into the big city. Anyway, thats the beginning. Of course the driving experience will be more like GTR than Half-life2! And predictably the start of this story is all too good to be true. You end up finding out that this is all a part of the nature of your work in developing the worlds most advanced life sim, designed around the individual, which you decide to pilot the first proper test. Things obviously go wrong, your mind starts to reject the sim world, which adapts around all the paranoia and dark emotions of greed, jealousy and lust within you, representing you instead of the perfect world it was meant to be. The world slowly decays into looking very much like 'Bladerunner' (the most realistic vision of the future in any film Ive seen!) with the kind of dark, wet and overcrowded neon city (which could have been Deus Ex 2 if they did it right!) So in the end you have the goal of defeating your dark self who traps you within the simulation, in order to escape and return to your real imperfect life. I know its not original, but it doesnt exist as an immersive next-gen FPRPG yet! This would be my perfect game, and if any large developer wants to steal it and make it happen.....take it! I wanna play it! Oh and of course it has to have ultra-realistic death sequences somwhere in there! Some concept art! These are definitely not original, HAHA! cars could be completely mouse driven, LFS style but easier! With a switch between free look and look to apex steering, left button accelerate, right button brake etc. imagine tearing down there in the Zonda! actually Tokyo..today, not Bladerunner! ![]() EDIT: Oh and as far as game dynamic is concerned...it'd be an open ended completely free to explore from the beginning type of world, but you'd be prompted by the voice of the character as to what to do to advance the story along. He'd only say it once unless you want him to repeat himself and the voice could be customisable to one more like your own, by altering the pitch, frequency of the recorded voice actor. Oh and you can see your body too, which you can also customise. So if you read this far, whadyu reckon?? Would you buy it for 30 quid?? ![]() |

Yea i guess you got a point there...dont think the story would suit a MMORPG tho, cos you'd need to be able to customise the character and have a more varied storyline for many people to play out simultaneously. This'd be an exclusively SP experience.
The gist of the idea is basically a free to explore world, like STALKER/Morrowind but in a more urban setting, and with that kinda gritty realism, rather than the cartoony style of GTA. And having a scripted story within that, playing it out as an adventure/RPG rather than an action styled shooter (there'd only be any violence in choice places so you dont get immune to it all, you know?). So obviously the story actually has to start, go somewhere and end, unlike HL2. The HL2 idea i did want tho was having cutscenes that you are part of and interact with. In fact if the story is intricate enough (like as intricate as a novel), the entire game would be like interacting with a huge well written cutscene. And the purpose would be the story and experiencing that from the FP perspective. Of course if the world isnt big, detailed and varied enough, and the story is bollocks, then it'll become another Deus Ex 2! ![]() AND THERES MORE :P I thought id be cool if when ur in free look within the car, you could fiddle with the stereo (of course have a good soundtrack/customisable playlist) or fiddle with a Doom style monitor GPS system, which will tell you in a voice how to get to your chosen location within the world. That'd be awesome! |
