A real riddle

This riddle takes place in the 16th century, where the French have build a castle to protect them from stealing-peasants and so on...

To enter their castle, knights, lords and old hags need a password,
so one simply walked to the gates of the castle, and answer the question of the guard...

A sneaky little biatch however, hiding in the bushes, listens to what the guard asks, and what the people answer.

First came a Knight; "6" is what the guard said to him, so the Knight responded with "3", he entered!
Second came a Warlord; "8" said the guard, so the Warlord responded with a "4", he entered aswell.
Third came a Woman; "12" said the guard, then the Woman responded with a "6", she could enter...

Now the biatch figured out how the password worked, and walked up to the castle...

The guard say "10", and he answered with "5"...






... why didn't the guard let him in?

The answer to 10 is 1 or 2 because numbers devisable by 5 or 10 (?)
are the exception to the password rule.
