I have just got hold of a 74Gig Raptor on Serial ATA, but i have an existing 80Gig Barracuda on an IDE.

i want to add the raptor to the existing setup and i have the motherboard to handle SATA.

Can i just, turn off and then plug in the new HD, then power up and XP will find it automatically, or is it a case of something else, i assume it will detect, but i am not 100% sure

Or is it a case of the dreaded format

Cheers guys

plug int he sata, boot up windows, then go start menu right click on my computer, click manage, then goto disk management on the left, then at the bottom youll see the raptor then click on that on it should be straight forward enough from there to handle it yourself.
You want to format the drive as a primary partition.

Just install drivers for S-ATA and it should work like plugging in IDE
