Radeon X850 Xt Platinum Edition 256MB,
however, for the price of that card you could buy a 7800GT wich is better. If you can tell us what budget u have, then we'll tell you wich card(s) will fit that budget the best.

Seeing as theres a new thread here on video cards, i was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I want to upgrade my video card but im not sure which one..my choices are AGP 6600GT 256mb, 6800GT or an X800XL. Im currently running a 9800pro on an AMD64 3200+ & Abit AV8 Mobo. I'll probably be upgrading to a PCI mobo by the end of next year so is it worth shelling out for either a new 6800GT or X800XL AGP card or just going with the 6600GT or just keeping what i have now?

Microsoft should be releasing Vista in a year, which also means that DirectX10(renamed WGF(Windows Graphics Foundation), renamed back to DirectX10) is coming out next year. When graphics cards support Hardware-based DX10, thats when I'll be moving. Playing DX9 games with DX8 cards is either impossible, they run slow, or your on a degraded graphics mode. (i.e. Geforce 4s(non-mx, the mx is DX7) are DX8 hardware) |

it's not easy to decide between a x800xl and a 6800gt. they're just about identical in both performance, cost, and image quality, so i suggest you get whichever is the cheapest, or has the bundle you're interested in. none of them are super expensive though, and should give you a very nice fps boost.
another reason to wait until next year is that amd is releasing socket m2, which will replace socket 939. your system is pretty decent though, so if you upgrade to something like a 6800gt now it should last until dx10 and socket m2 is out, at which point you can sell your current stuff and go all out

Thanks for the help guys, i think i'll stick with the vid card i have now untill i decided whether or not i want to upgrade. I think my ram is what i want to upgrade first anyway, currently i am using 1gb (2x512) of Geil High Performance with 6-3-3 timings and this is not a dual channel kit, both sticks were purchased seperately. Am i going to notice much of a performance boost and an increase in FPS if i upgrade my ram to Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2?
