After I get my 360 I'm gonna need an HDTV (for my PS3 when I get that too) but I'm on a limited budget for christmas (anything above like 400 is extremly out of the question)

So what I need is a good 20-24" HDTV (something thats not real thick, LCD perhaps) Does anyone have any reccomendations? Thankx

edit: I found this which is about 300 after rebate. Any thoughts on that?

Hmm good price but it wont bring out the best in your 360...only got 800x600 and no HDMI input. Yu might as well get a normal TV...

Look for 1080i support and an HDMI input, altho $400 is a tough limit! Yu know CRTs are huge but apparently for HDTVs they generally have the better quality pictures. A rear-projection/DLP would be the best investment but way outside a budget of 400. They start at around $1000 on newegg, but they make the best HDTVs.

Id get this one... Toshiba CRT 26" HDTV if you can stretch to it...

or get a vga adapter for your current PC monitor as fycus says, i was gonna investigate this option myself!

Nice thanks for the info...that really isn't too bad of a price...maybe I buy that with my money and ask for an xbox 360 for x-mas.

All you guys are getting suckered by Microsofts 360 HDTV hype. It looks better but its not worth the 1000 dollars.

On the other hand, it wouldnt look that bad at 800x600. Something with at least 720p would be nice cos thats upto 1280x720. LCDs can be a hassle cos yu gotta take into account response time etc to get rid of that blurry look, and the cheaper they are the worse this is generally! So I definitely recommend CRT...

Cant find any 720p CRTs at newegg tho...

EDIT: yup what asshat says...

Yea I forgot 360 itself has an optional VGA cable which is definitely much cheaper! But Im wondering what resolution it will give...good enough to play i suppose! :P But I dont think it supports 720p or above...im not sure, im trying to find out for myself too!

EDIT: Ok phew, sry guys its ok...the VGA cable is high def so this'd definitely be a good option!

Some useful blurb...

Quote:
Q. Will games look terrible on anything but high definition televisions?
A. No, games will not look terrible on standard televisions. Given that the graphics in Xbox 360 games will have greater overall detail in terms of polygon counts and texture sizes, Xbox 360 games will almost certainly look better than games from previous generation consoles, even on standard televisions. As an example, Xbox games look considerably better than, say, Playstation 1 games due to the amount of detail the Xbox was capable of producing in comparison with the Playstation. Similarly, Xbox 360 is more capable of producing detail than any preceding console.

Q. Can I use my computer monitor as my display for the Xbox 360?
A. Yes, depending on the type of monitor you have. And you will likely be able to play games in high definition too. As long as your monitor supports a resolution of 1280 x 720 or more, you should be able to play Xbox 360 games in high definition. In order to use your monitor you will most likely need to purchase the Xbox 360 VGA HD Cable and connect it to your monitor’s VGA port. If you don’t have a free VGA port on your monitor, you will either need to switch back and forth or purchase a VGA switcher.

Q. But if I use my monitor, how will I get sound?
A. With speakers, of course . The Xbox 360 VGA Cable package provides a pair of stereo RCA cables for standard stereo sound as well as an optical digital audio connection (optical digital audio cable not included). You will therefore need at least a set of powered, stereo speakers that accept a pair of standard stereo RCA connections or a fancier surround sound model (e.g. the Logitech z680) that can accept an optical input for the sophisticated gamer.

Another option if you have a sound card available on your PC is to use an external converter and plug the stereo sound output directly into the sound card. That way all of the sound from your Xbox 360 is routed through your computer’s standard sound interface.
